rear disc's or drums?
I am wondering if i should upgrade my rear brakes (currently drums) to eg ex/si brakes or teg brakes? I ordered hawk hps pads, that should come in tomorrow and have new front rotors and fluid all ready to go. My main reason for asking is because starting next year, the car will see some track time (road courses, and maybe auto-x). Will the rear drums be fine, or should I go ahead and upgrade to rear disc's? If yes, what is the level of difficulty (1-10, 10 being really hard)of tackling this project my self, and what all is needed (master cylinder, odds and ends)? I have access to almost a complete shop tool-wise, and have a moderate skill with cars.

I did a rear disc conversion for my hatch with teg rear brakes. The whole process was simple but it was time consuming. The conversion took a day and a half by myself. An experienced mechanic can probably do it in a couple of hours. I'm currently upgrading my brakes with USDM ITR 5 lugs. I noticed a huge difference from drum to disk. If your going to be hammering on the brakes at the track get disc brakes. You are able to upgrade them as necessary according to the power that your engine is producing. If you don't want to do a rear disc conversion then spend money on the front brakes. Safety first man!!! That would suck to hit a corner and destroy your car when all you need to save yourself is a couple hundred dollars on a brake upgrade.

just wondering. i mean my car wont break 200whp for a while, but im thinking the hawk pads should work for now. should i be looking for eg rear disc's or teg? is there a difference?
isnt the breakdown like 70/30 front/rear brakes?

there are no difference between the integra and 92-95 civic rear discs.. like someone state earlier, just change the proportion valve. Either get an integra or a civic si one.

Goodridge, Stoptech.. get something that's DOT approved and has a coating over the stainless weave. That weave will trap dirt and debris and when flexing, it will force it into the inner Teflon hose and cause it to fail.
For a street car, rubber hoses are fine. Stainless aren't recommended, but fine as long as they are coated.

You also don't "need" a 4040 prop valve, but I'm sure if Honda equips disk brake equipped cars with them, it's a good idea.

Thats what I always said, even for a while after I did my rear disc swap. Until I figured out that my civic goes through rears pads a fair bit quicker than the fronts. Correct prop valve if only swapping the rear brakes is a 3040 from a '92 - '93 Si hatchback. If you are running Integra brakes all around you need a 4040 prop valve from a '90 - '97 non ABS Integra.

Something people always fail to mention is that the 94 and 95 Civic EX came with larger front disk brakes, the same size as an Integra RS (non-ABS).
Prop valves have funny looking screws. Has anyone ever opened them up? Maybe it'd be possible to take like two 2040s and make one 4040 or drill them out or something?
