Rant: my civic and possible setups
Ok well ive got a 99 civic dx stock nonvtec dx engine with a short ram and a recently swapped y8 intake manifold and a 2.25 exhaust, short shifter, thats about it, i took it to the track last night with 14 inch stock tires 195 with the 16s on back and gutted interior i was running a best of a pathetic 17.05, i know it was my first time at the track, but that time is absolutely pathetic, i tried my best launching, but 1st gear is so tall and there is no torque its either i launch at 4 k and completele bog or i feather it out at 5500-6000 and get no wheel spin or i get alot of wheel hop and shaking trying to get that 1st gear to run out as soon as possible, my best 60 foot was a high 2.4x
Basically, i need your opinions, i had plans to turbo this engine, but cmon, if im gonna spend the money ( i already have 80% of the parts) and turbo this engine just to hit a nice 16 flat, what the hell is the use! and here my buddy is in his 93 civic hatch with a gs-r running consistant mid 14s and all he has is an intake and exhaust
should i cut my losses, sell the kit, try to make back what i paid for everything, and do the "go b or go home" or should i stick with the poor mans engine and try to wring 130 whp out of this boosted 1.6L nonvtec
at a crossroad and very frustrated!!!!!!
cliffs: ran pathetic times at track on stock d-series
plans to turbo, or should i say **** it spend the extra money and go faster with a b

........What were your trap speeds? I was able to cut 2.3 60 ft. in my '00 cx with the stock firestones.

Wow...i think you'd get more than just 130 whp with a turbo d UNTUNED...Honestly a turbo D done right will surprise you. I say just stick with the D, get a y8 tranny, turbo it, and learn to drive better. Seriously, if you're hitting 16's F/I, then its just because of a shitty driver. Look at BBKA, he's hitting low 13's on a stock turbo d. But hey, if you wanna shell out extra money then go ahead.

1: Deal with wheel hop first.... maybe fill the mounts, and some suspension mods. Make sure you are getting a decent launch first to see what's really going on. A little more practice too. You should be doing better than a 17 even bone stock. Have you checked little things like ignition timing, air filter, etc.?

Work on your launches - a tenth there will put you in the high 16s.
Swap in a Y8 tranny for better gear ratios and you'll get quicker times.
Then go turbo!
or
Sell me your turbo kit and buy a B series motor.
Don't get discouraged! This was your first time at the track with few go-goodies. Good luck!
EDIT: Damn everyone chimed in on the tranny idea while I was typing!

ya i guess i need more practise, i think my engine is runnin out of breath tho, 160 kilometres on it, and i had a nitrous backfire whe ni was spraying one time, i think i might have dropped a lil compression, i should test it, my buddy said he noticed a lil bit of blue comin out the tailpipe on one pass
