Random CAI question
I know that the purpose of a CAI is to get colder air into the engine, resulting in a little more horsepower (if any) and maybe some gas being saved. Now my question is will this work the same as a cold air intake: (random idea exploded inside my head)
I used the OEM air intake hose and flipped it so that it would go down to get colder air. There's a K&N filter inside the housing
The holes I covered with electrical tape (just a quick thought to cover it with). It doesn't hit the axle because I strapped it to the tranny mount with a wire.
Then it ends right behind the wheel without touching the brake hose or the shock absorber or the fork.
Let me know what you guys think, if it works, then I just saved myself about $220 for a AEM street legal CIA (in california)

theres a chance you could see some hp gains but that tube is bad for the sound resonance....but hey... im not about to argue over free.99 . haha way to think outside the box

Re: Random CAI question
Interesting idea!
I think it would be fine, other than the fact that your filter will get dirty a little faster, but it takes a few seconds to pull it out and clean it so it's no big deal.
Just don't go through any huge puddles.

Re: Random CAI question
Yep, thats why I didnt even bother looking to buy an actual $220 CAI
But its a couple inches away from the rotors, besides the tires spinning might disperse the hot air, maybe??

Re: Random CAI question
It only rains about once or twice a year, if that, and the hard rain season is already gone here in cali where I live
Yeah some bug might be a problem every now and then, but rocks I highly doubt it because they would have to travel up and stop by the time they reach the groves on the pipe
No puddles here man, only the occasional car-wash or sprinkler water out on the street/curb

Either way, I doubt it's much cooler next to your brakes than inside the engine bay.

Reporting back on the DIY CAI:
I feel that it somehow is saving me some gas, cuz the gas needle seems to stay up (more full) longer than before even though it is a y7, also I feel that its a little more responsive because of the cooler air coming into the engine, but I guess I'll never know unless I dyno it wit the stock set up and then with my "DIY cold air intake"
