ran 17.79 in quarter????
Hey i took my car out tonight and i used my friends gtech and got it all set up. I have thermal cat back exhaust, MSD distributor caps, msd blaster coils, fpr, and i have advanced my timing. But for some reason i ran a 17.79 with my 96 civic dx coupe and it has no backseats. Is this normal to run that or is something wrong because its not like im a shitty shifter im pretty decent but that seems awfully slow even if it was a stock dx. Please any info would be great

a g-tech is not the best posible measuring tool.. though some have had good results with it .. others have been off as much as 1/2 a sec to a full second..at least it was 18sec =P

Okay that being said I also have a 96 DX and was running low 17s with the stock motor. Post losing cat and adding headers on I was able to pull off a 16.220 at 83.51 mph at a track in Orlando. A DX (106hp) with 4-2-1 headers and CAI and a freer flowing exhaust can be bumped upwards of 12hp to 16hp at the wheels.
Final total after all above mods.
With some weight reductions and better tires I think I could have gotten very close to the upper 15s in a semi-stock DX.
I'm not the fastest car out there but for a DX I'm smokin!!! Did you also know a stock 99 Civic Si runs the 1/4 in about 15.8xx??

Re: ran 17.79 in quarter???? (Civic242)
my buddy ran a 16.8 with his 98 dx coupe. full interior, system, 18" "sinko" wheels with cheap *** tires and only an intake and exhaust....
suprised the hell out of me but considering he rand that, I think theres something definatley wrong with your time.

I find gtec very close to my actual track times. the MPH is a always a little off but other than that the times are close. It is all about setup and the area that you choose to run.
The times for the DX should be about a 17.0 with only minor modifications. A friend of mine ran a 17.1 at the track with only an intake. It all depends on the driver as well. A god driver will make a big difference. Shift hard and make sure you have a very controled launch..no excessive wheel spin.
keep trying you will get it
keep trying your times are far off for your setup

why drag period.
why ask dumb questions???
ok let me think. I donno ummmm
1. To have fun with friends and cars
2. To see what your car can do before you start to mod
those are the two easiest
That had to have been one of the dumbest things i have seen on this board..lol

Re: ran 17.79 in quarter???? (98coupe)
i dont know guys....but my 2000 civic dx coupe with stock engine but lowered on skunk2 coilovers ran a best of 16.5 at 91mph. My 93 civic dx hatch ran 16.7 on the pizza cutter 13's. that was also at stock height with full interior and NO engine mods. dont know about the numbers but i wasnt disappointd, i thought they would be a lot worse......

Re: ran 17.79 in quarter???? (HybridHackBatch)
I have a 96 dx 4-door with intake, full exhaust, header, racing cat and no tar in the entire car and no spare and the g-tech II(new model) said i ran a 16.03 at about 91. That seems about right since i can stay perfectly alongside my friends 96 integra LS and he ran a 15.9 at the actual drag strip.

Well i weigh about 170 and my friend was in the car with me setting up the gtech and he weighs like 210 he is a big boy. Also i have a wings west aggresor fiberglass front bumper and i have 16" enkei rims with bf goodrich low pros at 35 psi. Would this have effected the time alot?
