Re: Radiator fan not working
Repalced switch, fan is coming on around 204-208. But car is running around 194-197 down the raod. Replaced with a OEM 180 tstat, does this sound like a radiator, which is plugged, to you guys and needs replaced?

Re: Radiator fan not working
Thanks so much for this thread. I had the exact same problem with my fan not working and after all the time spent changing out things, now I found out exactly what was wrong, it was the themoswitch/fan switch that was bad. It kept my fan from turning on. This part can be found on ebay for about $15 and Advance Auto Parts for $25
I noticed from jumping it to a battery the fan turned on, the fuse was not blown and when I kept the car running in the garage, it would over heat and the fan would not turn on. After switching out the switch, the fan finally turns on now.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Radiator fan not working
I think its worth mentioning that to test the relay's and fan the easiest way, assuming your car is equipped with A/C, is to simply turn on the A/C and the radiator fans should both spin if the fans and relay are good. I tested my '01 Prelude last night (getting really hot in stop & go traffic) and with the relay out, only the left fan spins with the A/C on.. putting the relay back in fires up the right fan as well.
My car creeped up towards the H yesterday while in stop n go traffic, (it would come down back to normal if I drove over 30mph for 30 seconds or so) ...but since I was stopped I decided to turn on the A/C, which forced both fans to spin, and the temperature came down to almost normal within about 10-15 seconds (while stopped on the freeway in about 40*f weather).
After I got to work, I let the car idle for about 10 minutes (ocassional revving to speed up the process) and the temperature began to creep back up near the H. I popped the hood and sure enough, neither fan was spinning.. I hit the A/C, boths fans spun, and the temp came down after about 15 seconds.
It appears I have a bad thermoswitch...a quick search turned up they are about $35 online.
I did check my fluid levels yesterday and found my resevoir was low, but the issue happened again today with a full resevoir. The radiator was already full. I am not sure If I need to bleed the radiator or not (other forums say there could be air trapped in the system) but I presume a new fan switch (thermoswitch) will take care of my fan issue..
is it normal for the h22a4 to run hot enough to require the radiator fans in 40*f weather? I've not owned this car very long.

Re: Radiator fan not working
I know this is an older post, but am hoping someone will see it and maybe be able to help me. I've got a 1998 Honda Civic, and the radiator fan will not work and the car is running hot. We've done all of the things listed here. Thus far we have:
Installed new thermostat
Installed new radiator (old one burst when running hot)
Used a paperclip to jump the relay and test it- fan worked.
Used alligator clips to hook the fan to the battery-fan worked
Switched out fuses- didn't make a difference.
Since the fan worked when trouble shooting, I'm assuming the fan is fine. Any chance it could be where the fan hooks to the car?
Is there something that we're overlooking?

did you replace the thermostat or the thermostat switch ?
if you jump the connector and the fan ran, that means the fan and relay and associated wiring are good.
The only thing that leaves is the thermostat switch

Re: Radiator fan not working
1992 Civic DX, automatic transmission, 218,xxx miles
I've had the car close to a year and I have never heard the radiator fan turn on. It has never overheated or burned/leaked coolant so I kept putting it off.
I pulled the thermostat switch plug off and jumped the plug end and the fan turned on. Followed the suggestions here and replaced the thermostat switch, left the car on for close to 30 minutes and the fan still hasn't turned on. Driven for a week or two and still no fan action.
Will my passive grandpa style driving keep the radiator fan from ever coming on? Car does not like to be in Drive after warming up and sitting stationary so I was thinking this might be related??
