Quiet transmission whine
I recently changed my transmission fluid in my 1999 Civic SiR (canadian car). It now seems that I have developed a fairly quiet whine while driving and I don't know what can be causing it. I'm 99% sure I filled the transmission up with fluid until it started to come out the fill hole, but, in the instance that I have not, do you think that it is possible for not enough fluid to be causing this quiet whine?
I only hear it at around 2500-3500rpm. After that the engine is too loud for me to hear it. If I push on the throttle, I hear it pick up ever so quietly, and when I take my foot of the throttle, it quiets down accordingly. I'm almost certain that the whine is from the transmission and not the engine, as I have no idea what in the engine would make such a sound in the first place.
Maybe it's just me and that whine has always been there, but I think I would have noticed it a very long time ago. I poured about 2.2~2.3 quarts of Honda MTF into the transmission, and I'm pretty sure I have the S4C transmission along with the stock B16a2 engine in the car (in case anyone here is wondering).
Regardless, to reiterate, it looked like the tranny fluid started to come out of the fill hole on the transmission. In the case that it didnt, would being about 50-75mL short on tranny fluid be devastating? I unfortunately will not be able to open up the fill bolt and check until the weekend at the earliest, so if it is detrimental to the transmission's health, I rather not drive the car at all until then.
thanks!
