Quick question - 95 si swap, could i use vx harness
my friend got a 95 si swap with everything selling for cheap. i was wondering if i could just use swap it in my 92 vx hatch and just use my original harness and ecu. is it plug and play and any problems with this...
for the smog check guys... im pretty sure this would be considered a replacement engine... you pro smog check guys think it would be considered replacement or swapped motor?

motor is from a 95 right.. ok youll need the ecu and the harness from that motor... you know vtec and whatnot. you could wire that your self but its much easier to get the harness from that motor... i mean your car is an eg right? so you need the vtec harness and a p28 ecu for it to all work right.

vx has vtec stock. so same harness could be used right?
my friend only got the motor, tranny, ecu, and i think axles.

ohhh so you dont have the stock motor in there haha ok... well than yah its a bolt in plug and play affair (i assume your talking about the jdm d15b)... you could prolly just sell that p28 too. or send it off to get hondata
but why trade a d15b for a d16z6?

naw, i dont think its jdm. brought the car like that from an old white lady.
also, my **** got a control box thingy on the firewall.. do i pull that off when i swap the motor?
and also, previous question, is it a replacement or a swap.

ypou see that green clippy, and then that cylinder thing, thats the vec wire and vtec selenoid. if that isnt on the motor in your car (it will be on the back left behind cylinder number 4) you dont have vtec, thus needing a vtec wiring harness.

my friend is selling me the whole swap with out harness. soo it comes with the ecu. would i need to take the motor apart and oil the parts because its been sitting in the garage for 3 months now.
edit: yes, my motor currently has that. I just never did a swap before.

just turn the cank manualy to see if it has compression. but as long as the motor is good it should be fine, and tghe motor isnt gonna sieze becasue its been sitting, i mean if you dont change the oil and you run it to china and back before you change it, it might spontaniously combust?
so just change the oil, start her up, let the radiator fan kick on the turn it off and change the oil again since your so worried.

just get the d16z6 , ecu, and engine harness.
since you have a 92 you dont have to wire vtec.
everything should be plug and play

Lots of replies, none completely correct.
Nobody has mentioned the 5 wire o2 sensor that's on a stock Civic VX.
You would need to rewire the oxygen sensor to a 4-wire configuration and run the D16Z6's 4-wire o2 sensor to make it work, so no it's not 100% plug and play as it's being touted. Basically look up the correct ECU pin-outs for a 92-95 EX/Si computer and run 4 wires to the pin locations, and then to a matching plug (you can get this from a salvage car) out to the o2 sensor. The pins at the ECU do not match up even if you run the D16Z6 engine harness, becdause the wiring from the shock tower to the ECU plugs in the chassis harness is different for the o2 sensor.
Also forget about using a VX ECU with the D16Z6, because the VX also has EGR while the D16Z6 doesn't - meaning you'd have a forever check engine light and certainly fail your smog check.
Will it pass sog this way? I have no idea because I'm in GA, not CA.
Good luck.

thank you for the reply.. very useful information that i needed.
Edit: What if i buy the Si Engine harness and the ECU Chasis Harness. will it be a plug and play from there, and will i get a CEL for abs or other ****.
The swap with Engine, Tranny, Ecu, and maybe Axles for $300 Cheap? around 130k miles.

i believe it will be plug and play if you swap the dash harness (ecu harness) however, its no quick easy task.
you are talking bout taking the whole dash out and everything else with it.
it would be easier to wire up the o2 sensor.
