quick qestions about top speed and a race
what is a 98 civic ex top speed governed at? completly stock.
also if i were to race a 04 grand am v6 175hp would i loose from the begining? i thought i knew for sure i would loose but because according to a quick google serch both our power to weight ratios are VERY close. he is .29 less then me. but i am woundering if i could get ahead at the begining because his car is 800 pounds more then mine. or would the v6 overcome that 800 pounds?

Re: (j-rome)
well, honestly, I'm not 100% sur eon this, but civics(none that I have driven) have a governor. MIne goes to like 120 and still have rpms and speed. so I think the engines are made as a governor, but still not completely sure. The Grand Am would winn from start to finish. But yeah, he has to pay for the gas he doesn't need, unlike you . If you have a 5speed and have a few bolt ons, it's possible, depends on the driver. I have done it in my 93 civic, by a car length. good luck

hey flood, pm me if you get this. also, as a reply to this post, won't a 98civic peg the speedo? and i think, wouldn't swear, but alot of gm's have fuel cutoff around 90 on some trucks and 110 or 120 on smaller cars..........don't be an idiot, don't race on an interstate. race at a track, and if he beats you, he beats you, nobody gets hurt.

the older gms cutoff(cars) cutoff at around 105-110. My 96 cavalier did, the v6 do too. the trucks, like 90, true. the newer ones, BEATS THE HELL OUT OF ME. depends on the drivers and trannys really. your engine has more rpms per gear, but his torque takes that advantage away.

when i was in his car he toped it out at 118.
also i would never race on a interstate or highway. My firend in a 94 golf 2.0 not vr6 wants to race which i am perty sure i should win as my power/weight ratio is 17.81 and golfs is 20.61
and from reading the above posts i should go about 120ish? i dont want to try as alot of the roads are busy and not a smart idea to do it on.
i need to get out to the track and have some fun as i have alot of people that want to race that should come perty close

Re: (j-rome)
instead of asking us, why dont you just find a nice straight road and mash on the gas pedal till the car wont go any faster, then you'll know how fast it can go. i did that and hit 146mph in an integra

Re: (j-rome)
trust me, you'll go faster than the grand am in the long run, just not in the 1/4 of a mile. 120 is pretty good, you can prolly get it to 130, it will take a while, especially if your in an automatic. good luck tho.
