Default A quick D-Series Swap w/ pics

My girlfriend recently bought a '94 DX from a friend of mine. It had 115K, but it had "engine trouble". He picked up another motor for it and we bought it. Car and new motor for $550.

I was hosting the pics for another site, so I figured I'd put them up here to see what you guys thought.

Here's some before and after pictures:

Here it is on the road!

Hydrolock as far as I can tell. It was a flood car.

Faded red... just like every other EG. Did you wire VTEC in yet?

Yeah, "engine trouble" would be one way to describe it.

Yep. This is my first Honda swap and I know it's nothing special, but I was excited about it. Wired it up for VTEC a few days ago and borrowed the ECU out of the Integra. A two step sounds pretty funny on a stock motor!

When I looked at it and saw the whole in the back I figured that was it. Then I removed the AC bracket...

The car is currently running a D15B7 manifold because the D16Z6 only came with an upper manifold. We'll probably just pick up a DC header for it soon...

buff the car it will be way better. if you can swap this motor, you should be able to swap any other one. Clean job.

Thanks. I have a '99 EX coupe that I'd like to swap a GSR into when the time comes. Unfortunately I think it will be a little more expensive.

Good job man! You inspire other people that will soon be doing thier first motor swap.

If you could do it all over again, like rewind time to before the swap was attempted...is there anything you would have done differently? Since it was your first time, I don't know if everything went exactly as planned and whatnot. I assume you kept the same trans right? Just swapped the longblock and called it a day?

How long did it take? I'd rather ask YOU these questions than someone who's already done a swap a bunch of times since it was your first time and you probably have about the same knowledge as I do. I know a decent amount and I'm pretty mechanically inclined I just happened to never have the opportunity to personally swap a motor.

Thanks, and congratulations! It was a pretty risky attempt since it was your g/f's car. If it was my own car and there was a few problems that delayed things a few days...i'd be able to deal with it. My g/f would be wondering what the hell I did wrong, and why she cant drive her car immediately, haha.
