Default Questions about installing parts on a 96 civic DX... Intake

I am a newbie to this site, but not to car forums. I did search on this topic, but... I am new to the civic scene, (apparent by my user name), and I am modding my car a little bit. I bought an intake off eBay but, looking at my intake manifold, it looks like the intake itself fits defferently than other models. It looks like for my IM, the intake needs to go up, and then around next to the distributor. Will an intake for other models fit on my DX model? Am I going to have problems buying mods for my DX model, because it seems like it is different than other models. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

Yes the dx engine or the d16y7 has a differeny throttle body than other motors in that year. The place you bought it from on ebay should have one that fits. Thats the biggest noticable difference, most suspension, steering, stuff like that fits other civics in the 96-00 range. Have any questions, PM me. Do you live in downtown Milwaukee, or the outskirts?

Welcome to H-T. First thing I'll tell ya is to check the rules. Also, make your posts more specific. Almost every post is regarding installing parts, mention its about a intake.

Now, the 96 Civic came with two engines. The DX,LX, CX, all got the motor you have, its a D16Y7. The intake manifold makes the throttle body point up. The EX has a D16Y8, where the intake manifold makes the TB point toward the right of the car. Ebay lies about compatibilities of intakes. DX and EX intakes are not the same because the pipe just wont fit. The intake you want is for a 96-00 Civic DX, LX, CX model. The EX intake will not fit.

That is the D16Y8 Intake manifold, and note the black pipe is the intake pipe. On your engine, it will not work, cause there just different lengths and shapes. Yes, that is duct tape on the end of the air filter, nevermind that.

Hey turner, I live basically in downtown Milwaukee, about a mile away. If you have any meets down in Illinois, I am looking for more connects. I will make sure next time I put the right info in the title. So seeing that the DX is the D16y7, and people on eBay tend to lie about compatibility, should I spend the extra few dollars and buy from reputable dealers? Because it seems like buying some parts off of ebay for my car may end up in some problems.

I had good luck with ebay, but everyone has their own opinion. I would search here on Honda-tech, I have sold two car and bought a few items. Good people and good prices. Just a thought though, a few of us are trying to get a meet together but its not easy in this part of the county.

you can actually change the intake manifold from the y7 to the y8.. the y8 manifold actually makes a good gain in power that you can feel through the whole powerband.. just make sure you buy the aftermaket intake pipe for the y8 if you swap manifolds...
