Default Question on timing.

Here is the situation. MOTOR....B16A2

I do not have the timing belt covers on the car and do not intend to put them on.
I installed the motor about 2 years ago and ws able to get it in time. I just don't recall how I did it. During my RHD conversion a buddy decided to speed things up for me and remove my timing belt without marking anything.

From memory.....

Turn the crank till the #1 piston is to the top and then make sure both cam gears are also straight up. I know I am missing summin....lol

Firing order 1342......Cylinder order 1234 from right to left facing the motor.

Thanks.

i use 1243 as the timing sequence for all my honda engines... thats starting at the top left tower on the dizzy cap (when looking at it from the pass. fender) as #1 and going clockwise

well since you dont have any timing belt covers you should be able to see the timing gear on the crank, align that up with the mark on the block so you know its exactly at tdc. Your cam gears will have marks on them that say up and then 2 at 90 degrees in both directions. Place the up up lol and those 2 marks will align up with the top of the head horizontally. You are correct on the firing order for the dizzy and engine

aftermarket will still have the marks, they might not say up though, you can tell which way they go however becuase there are 3 marks in 90 degree increments (first mark-->90-->"up" mark-->90-->last mark). If all these are set with the motor at tdc your good. Also i believe you can put punches in the cams to lock them at tdc i unfortunetly dont know this for sure because i drive a SOHC. Good luck

Here is a pic I dug up on a search.
I have looked in a helms manual and seems that it shows the #1 plug on the lower front of the dizzy cap. But this pic shows it to be on the lower rear location.

My helms is at the shop or I would scan the page. But I am almost positive this is what the manual shows.

So 1 is lower rear and them 3 4 2 counter clockwise?

Someone open the pic in paint and show the correct order.

This response is different than what I have seen as well.

Yeah thats what I thought.

Have not been to the shop tonite so I don't know that I have the horizonal marks. Seems I do recall some other marks on the pulleys.

I still think my helms says summin else. Gonna drive me nuts and make me take a drive in the cold.....lol.

Thanks for the time and effort to help.

Have a great night

Ok here is an update.

Setting the timing has been a bitch. When I try setting the rear cam it feels like it is on a compression stroke. I can get it set but when attempting to put the belt on it wants to roll over a notch.

Also I got to thinking......

My injectors......I do not know what harness I have on the motor.

When the motor was removed the harness was removed from the motor for painting. It was put back on just like removed. Then it was brought to my attention that the colors of the injector wires was not right. So I re-routed according the the haynes manual.

Now I am wondering if my injectors are hitting at the wrong time versus the timing.................ARRRRRRRRGH.

TIPS OR SUGGESTIONS?

Thank you
