Default Question re: 96 stock exhaust on a 99

Happy almost friday all,

I have a 99ex and bought an exhaust locally from a guy who said it was from a 96ex. Well the exhaust is in good shape but it only has one 02 bung, up on the manifold. My car now currently has two o2 sensors. Did the 96 only have one? I thought it was odbII by then....

So can I go to an exhaust shop and just have them drill out a hole for the 2nd sensor? What would that run me, 50 bucks or so?

Oh and I am using this stock exhaust to pass emissions only.

Thanks guys

if everything fits up, have another bung welded in. cant cost that much. im trying to picture the exh off of my old beater, and my head is a little fuzzy.

i thought obd2 started in 96, which would mean exhaust from a 96 should already have two o2 bungs. but maybe i'm wrong

One is on the cat and the other is on the manifold. It changed for the 99-00 series.

Since you're missing the one off the cat, wouldn't it be easier to just pick up a cat from a OBD2 civic? I don't know how well welding a bung into a cat is going to work, but if its cheap then why not right?

Also note that the bung in the cat may be in a different spot on different year cars. When I bought another exhaust that had a cat on it, the bung was too far to reach with my O2 sensor so I had to cut off the sensor and solder in extension wires to make it fit.

thanks for the replies guys.

From what I can see, there is only one bung, making me think this is not a 96-00 exhaust but maybe a 92-95. The cat is connected to the pipe before and after it...all one piece (the cat i know on my old stocker used the "spring bolts") none of that seems to be on this.

The bung on the manifold is there, but i see nada on the cat.

Ahhh there we go, no wonder! Make sure he isn't selling you a non-EX (dx, lx, cx) exhaust (#17) too though, those didn't come with cats because the cat is right under the manifold.

As far as getting a new cat, I would recommend a universal cat since they are cheaper and taking it to an exhaust shop to have them put it on. Unless you can find a used one on here at a good price.

Thanks alot ElVap133, what a huge help youve been. It is indeed the EX model, the guy just either forgot to give me the cat or wasnt planning on it period. I paid 100 for the manifold and the rest of it, so I guess thats not too bad.

Is that worth a hoot?

No problem, I am here to help when I can.

That doesn't seem to bad a price for a cat that is a direct replacement actually.
