Default Question: My car is idling up and down. What can be the problem???

Well when i start the car. It idles up and down from 3000 rpm to 1000 rpm. Someone told me that it does that cause i need a new intake manifold cause its clogged . Is that right?

Yup try that or it could just be a vacuum leak or a hose that has come off

check the runners on your intake manifold for cracks, friend has a cracked manifold and his car revs at an idle

the problem went away.

he also said that at 1st he changed the spark plug wires and it went away but came back again a week later.

so his neighbor told him to change his intake manifold and its been gone since then

i can also be your FITV....Fast Idle thermal valve, clean that out too as well as the Idle Air control valve. Here is how to clean the FITV....

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1564019

Grab some throttle body cleaner and spray it on ur Intake Manifold gasket all around and see if it changes the RPM when spraying...if it does....Need a new gasket...and while ur at it..clean the manifold from the inside...

90% of the time, this is a vaccum leak.

if you've changed anything or worked on anything in this area, check that first.

otherwise, you can run the engine, let it idle and spray carb cleaner or break parst cleaner strategically around the manifold and related parts listening for a change in the idle (it may smooth out slightly or rev up some more)

this will get you in the neighborhood of your leak

Disassemble de IACV completely. There is a piece inside the IACV that oscillates and gets stuck with dirt. Just clean it up.

cover your hand over the throttle body with the car running. it's gonna suck your hand really hard. if the car does not die, it's a vacuum leak.

well i cover the throttle body and the car shut down. So i dont have a vacuum leak. So i guess imma just buy a new intake manifold. Would a d16y8 manifold fit a d16z6?

u dont need to buy a whole ne intake manifold. its gota be something little. how long has it been doin that. also u might want to check ur idle screw.

and yea a d16y8 manifold will fit. how much r u gona get it for. b/c i will be better for ur z6.

i threw a y8 manifold and a GSR throttlebody on my car... and its a big improvement.

Wats a better engine a d16z6 or a d16y8? cause i was also thinkin of buying his engine to built a bit. The car was idling like that when i bought it which was like 1 month ago. but i have been driving it for 2 weeks

if you have an FITV under your throttle body, then use the procedure that was posted above.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1564019

a lot of the time this is the cuprit. but this is only a temporary fix though. honda doesn't recommend tamporing with it, only to replace with a new fitv set to factory settings. it's around $50
