Default A question for Midori Green EK owners...

How come every Midori Green EK I see(that still has original paint) has very faded paint in the engine bay? While other Honda OEM colors seem to hold up fine there? Even some older Hondas have better looking paint in the engine bay. Is this common? Midori owners please chime in... Is there something about the quality or application of the paint that causes it go dull and fade faster than other OEM paints?

Here are some pics from the A/C forum to illustrate what I'm talking about...

i dont believe the engine bays have been clear coated from the factory, thus them "looking faded" compared to the exterior

It's not that they really faired less well than any other color. Our paint colors, when not clearcoated, generally have a slightly different hue to them. They're usually just not quiet a vibrant and have a fuller finish.

Look at Dark Amethyst Pearl (without clear looks sort of dark blue) or New Vogue Silver Metallic (looks chalky).

So basically, if I clearcoat my engine bay, it will look more like the exterior paint? Will a regular automotive clearcoat work? Or do I need to use something more temperature resistant for the(presumably) higher underhood temperatures?

Some paints work strangely together and can cause damage to the finish. If you want it clearcoated, go to a professional. Don't use auto store spray paint clearcoat.

Also, Honda clearcoats often have pearl mixed in with them, so the color of the paint appears to change more from before and after the clearcoat.

Is 'Midori Green' the actual name of the color from Honda? That's hilarious as green in Japanese is midori

It actually has two names from Honda that I'm aware of.

Lots of people here know that it means "green" (my understanding is it technically means "greenery").

It's called Midori Green Pearl or Pizzicatto Green Pearl.

You gatta figure, theres an engine in that bay that produces a whole lotta heat. The engine bay paint is exposed to way more heat than the exterior.

Im sure that heat has something to do with it.

Default FV-QR

Look for brand new Hondas with similar light colored paints. Check what their engine bay looks like. Not sure if they've changed the process, but it might be similar.
