Default Question about Transmission serials...

had a few questions about two different transmissions and their serials...

1st off: Are there are notable differences between a b18c1 tranny and a b18b1? By this i don't mean performance or anything like that. I'm talking about the outside of the transmission itself. The casing.

2nd: I am trying to identify a transmission that's in my car. I had someone do a bit of work on my car and since then, my axle continues to pop out and I never had this issue with the car before. Is there such a place where I can look up serial numbers on the transmission that's in my car to see whether it's my gsr tranny or an ls tranny?

I know this all may sound kind of dumb, but hey, that's what this place is for... To ask questions and get answers :D.

Give us:
- Tire Size
- Hold it at a certain RPM in a certain gear
- Tell us the speed

From that we can tell you what kind of transmission you have.

What Syndacate is referring to is using this site:
http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears/

To match up which gear ratios you have, therefore possibly confirming the transmission.

B18B

1st = 3.230
2nd = 1.900
3rd = 1.269
4th = 0.966
5th = 0.714
Reverse = 3.000
Final = 4.266

B18C1
1st = 3.230
2nd = 1.900
3rd = 1.360
4th = 1.034
5th = 0.787
Reverse = 3.000
Final = 4.400

I see. I can do that but is there any other way to tell? Not that I don't want to see what the gear ratio is but just wondering.

4050 @ 80mph 5th gear = gsr
4450 @ 80mph 5th gear = ls
anything less = ls

Wouldn't that be the other way around? GSR would be higher in revs than LS at any speed while cruising in 5th.

Hmmm well I know that the car sits somewhere around 4 grand at 80 mph because I'm just under boost and if I mash the gas I begin to boost. I'm 100% that it's 4050 in 5th at 80 mph.

That's good and all but my question is that is there any serial number on there that will give me some type of proof whether or not it's an LS or GSR tranny? Like some type of marking or part in the gSR that isnt in the LS? Because, I may have to report it to the police if my tranny was stolen and replaced with an LS tranny.
