Question about painting the side skirts and front lip
I was wondering if I would be able to paint my front lip and side skirts using the Dupli-color spray can paint.
They have granada black, which is the color of my car, so I figure if I take off my lip, sand it and primer it, then spray the dupli color stuff on, and clear coat it, it should be all good right??
I just dont want to spend +$300 on something i can do for $50.
Thanks!!

sure you can take this route, if thats what you want to do. It wont last as long or look as good than having it done at the shop of course.
If the plastics aren't painted yet: Use plastic prep cleaners/sealers before doing any sanding.(rubbing alcohal doesnt work well)
sand any defects such as scratches with 150 grit and go finer up to about 320-400grit. You dont really have to scuff plastics up for paint, because you'll be using an adhesion promoter.
Then you apply your paints(spray it with an even pattern). Primer first and let it flash dry and then apply your paints while the primer is still sticky but not wet. do the same with each coat(sticky but not wet)
Things you'll need:
Plastic prep cleaners/sealers
Adhesion promoter
A quality Primer
Paint/clearcoat
150-400 grit paper
NOTE: Some products can only be found at your Local AutoBody Supply Store.

Re: Question about painting the side skirts and front lip (tnbigdawg)
Would it turn out pretty good??
Is it one of those things that it all depends on how careful you are and everything??
Also, would you need to add "flex" something, i cant remember what it is called, but they always mention it when talking about painting side moldings.
one other thing, about how long would it last? and if it turned out crappy, i could just strip it off, right?

This step is so important, the plastic must be prepped very well before any type of paint application. If not you could end up doing this step over and over.

Re: Question about painting the side skirts and front lip (skunkwhat)
so most of all, what i am wondering is...
will this turn out quality if I take my time, and follow the steps you provided??
I am more worried about using a spray can as opposed to an air compresser and actual honda paint.
Thanks for the help so far guys!!

Well, flex additives are usually mixed in with paint and since you're using a spraycan there is no way to do this. Thats why I said taking the spray can route will not last as long as taking it to the body shop.
taking the steps i have showed you will produce a much longer lasting job than most "cheap" routes.
The finish product all depends on how well you take these steps, and how you apply the paints.
Always remember: "You get what you paid for". Spend little=cheap finish, spend more=quality finish.
It's all up to you what you want to do.
