I have a 92 hatch 5 spd... one of my friends had an extra p28 laying around that i put in my car... I was wondering if there was any way to tell if its an automatic p28? how would the car run if it was automatic? thanks

You will eventually get a check engine light. I don't remember which code it is, but is for the auto trans.

but will the car run differently? because we tried it in my car and it was idling crazy

p28's are really bad at idling, but thats normal cuz every p28 pretty much does that.

look at the side of the ECU, you will see P28-Axx
the second x
0=manual trans
5=automatic trans

but it can be converted
only way to know 100% is if RP17 is present and RP18 is a resistor and not a jumper. (makes it an auto) the parts are just below the "chip" location on the bottom right side of the board.

is it chipped?

the side of mine says p28-a52... it isnt chipped.
