Default Question about intake

I am gonna be installing a new cold air intake. I was wondering if you need to keep in - or are supposed to remove - the large black plastic thing mounted under the frame used for the stock air filter/intake.

Thanks!

Now, which is the best branded intake to install in your opinion onto a SOHC JDM VTEC engine?

Iceman. Based on Dynojet 248C tests it consistently added more power than the AEM on a 94 EX and a 95 Si (both D16Z6). Heck, the short configuration of the Iceman did better than the AEM!
