Default question about brakes and the metal clips

hey guys, the other day my brakes started to make noise when i was backing up.... so i checked it out and found that i was missing one of the metal clips that sit between the pad and the bracket. i didnt have any money at the time so i put it all back together the way it was and now my brakes are squeeling all the time, except when im at a dead stop. i just got the clips a few minutes ago but dont have my tools with me bc im out of town, hence im unable to put them in just yet, but im wondering just what these clips do and if that would be the cause of my problem

thanks

Do you mean the metal clips above and below the brake pad that hold it place?

all those metal pieces serve a porpous. Without any one of them, your brakes will make noise, and wear unevenly...

When I do a brake job, I replace ALL of those.

i figored that i just didnt know what exactly they did(like if they were retainers to pull the pads away from the rotor). but the clips are going in asap hopefully that is the problem causing the squeekage

Sounds to me like you found the issue. Make sure to get some anti-squeal lubricant\compound for the back of all the brake pads. without it they will sqeal to. Good luck
