Re: question about 85 honda civic wagon (joey)
I'm here. I'll have to take a look at the circuit in my manual. I've heard it's possible to get a bad alternator if it's rebuilt.

Re: question about 85 honda civic wagon (Gasoline Fumes)
Is the battery charging? If the "automatic choke heater" is shorted out, it might make the alternator light come on. Try unplugging the choke heater. Here's a picture showing where it is, incase you don't know. http://www.geocities.com/internethit...okeheater.html

Re: question about 85 honda civic wagon (Gasoline Fumes)
The altenator is charging the battery (although when its on it has a burning smell and a little bit smoke comeing from it...i asume that is from whatever kind of coating was put on the wires of the altenator?) i unplugged the choke heater and the light went off , but i did it again and the light stayed on......but once the engine is warmed up the choke doesnt open fully. any help will be appreciated

Re: question about 85 honda civic wagon
I think you might have a bad choke heater. One of the alternator light wires goes to the ignition switch and the other goes to the alternator. If the choke heater is shorted, it provides a path to ground for the light and shorts out the alternator (could explain the smoke and burning smell). You could just unplug the heater and take the choke plate off. I've been driving my Wagon without a choke for about a year, and it still starts easily.
