Here's some progress I made. I decided to assemble the bottom end last night and this morning before school. All clearances are perfect and I'm ready to pull my engine and swap the needed parts over and make sure I have enough piston to valve clearance. It should go in in about a week, after we drop in my room mate's new engine into his Type R...
and yes, I assembled in my living room so I could stay within room temp so I could get accurate measurements...plus, I only have 1 engine stand
Well, finally got the chance to head back home and pick up my fresh block from my brother's work- Edward's Engines in Spokane, WA.
I got a spare Z6 long block from a buddy, which I sent in and had all the machine work done. I got brand new p29 pistons mated on stock Z6 rods which were shot peened and heat treated, bored/honed block, crank grind, balanced reciprocating assembly, and all new bearings/gaskets for the bottom end for a VERY god deal.
The build up will begin after I finish my room mates B18C5 build with Darton sleeve kit, Endyn pistons, Eagle rods, etc....so it will be about a week for an update(only have 1 engine stand).

Kind dark, but you all know what a fresh cylinder looks like...

yup....should have added...
this will be mated to my head in the car now...
port/polished
milled .020

and a 3 angle valve job...
with compression numbers reading between 125 and 145 across all 4, I hit 114 whp last weekend. I figure with a stock rebuild I would gain about 10-15 wheel, but with the high comp and then Hondata s100, I'm hoping for 150-160 wheel...we'll see though

Sweet dude. I keep thinking I'm going to do something with this spare D16Z6 longblock I have sitting around but I'm poor and I need to make my car run right how it is right now before I start dropping more money into fun stuff.

another nice thing for the build would be a srr 4.9 for the tranny
I am looking to find a spare YS1 tranny to do ZC 3rd gear and SRR final drive in the future, but stock YS1 will have to do for now.

150-160whp or more could be right around the corner for you with that setup. Good luck man, nice job.

did you get the pistons new or used? i was goin to get them new.....til i got the quote for em.

got the pistons new. They aren't Honda made, but made by an aftermarket supplier which is just as good of quality, if not better. The pistons were perfectly balanced out of the box and with rings cost me 100 bucks through my brothers work
We'll see how these hold up, but the shop's been using them for awhile and had nothing bu great results

looks very nice emerika.. please keep up updated.. and may I ask what header are you using? and have you planned to possibly use Bisi's designed header? also do you plan to run the stock intake manifold and possibly upgrade to the skunk or JG unit. good luck I know this is a budget build up and it looks promising

I'm just simply telling him that his goal of 150-160whp is possible. I don't have any charts I've seen the setup, but never built it. He could probably get more out of it with a y8 head though, for the compression. Good luck Emerika, post some dyno results if you can!

however with the NA setup being able to pull off 160whp thats awesome! condidering a stock b16a cant put out that much power

why do you say you are going to get a 3rd gear grind after it breaks in? is that a normal thing in the d16z6 trannys?
also, has the P29 piston-in-D16 been done before? I hear it all the time with a couple of guys here on HT, but when people actually do it, is it totally streetable/reliable with the upped compression?

im wondering, with all the labor, and costs [if you were to pay full price],
is the d series build up worth it in the end?
it seems like a lot of hard work, to get to 115hp - 150hp imo.
what would be the costs with this set up, without the discounts/free bees you got?
would you have done it, if you had to pay for everything?
