problems with Automatic
I have a 98 LX with 155,000 miles the transmission seems to be acting up. I just got the car and it's had the problem since I before I got it. When I drive the car will rev up before it shifts and jerk into gear,I hope this makes sense I tried an oil change and transmission fluid change with no luck. I got a quote of $1800.00 to rebuild the transmission plus labor. I'm trying to find out if this is a good price and if any of you experts have any advice or ideas. I don't know much about cars.

Honestly it sounds more like a typical 6th gen honda automatic tranny. Most of them shifted like crap right out of the box, the good news being that it will probably continue to keep going, the bad news being that the shift quality leaves something to be desired. Mom's '96 has been doing the same since she bought it with 45,000kms on it, its got 103,000 on it now and its still the same.

I just wanted add I just talked to the guy I bought the car from he said the transmission has been doing this for last 30-40 thousand miles.

Storage of a transmission trouble code in the ECU is indicated by the D4 light blinking or CEL illuminating. Check whether the D4 light was disabled by the previous owner to mask a transmission problem. First check whether the bulb was removed and whether the D4 light was disabled at the shift lever switch.

your in luck. as 94EG8 said on a previous post, the demand of auto trannys are low since many are doing auto to manual swap. you can get one pretty cheap here on the hondamarketplace.

auto honda trannys suck. my 98 does it from time to time where it shifts very hard
and jurky,
1800 + labor is way to high, you would be better off going to a honda/acura shop and picking up a full tranny,
most likely someone didnt take car of that tranny, but i dont think your going to have to worry about it for another 40k, but autos arent that much money, and getting them put in isnt that bad either depending on where you go.

as the tranny wears down, material and **** settles in the passages. this is one reason why they go bad but in most cases where the material is its not hindering the trannys performance. if you do a flush you stir up the crud and it can block the passages causing the tranny to not act correctly. i have 222,xxx miles on my auto tranny and have been keepin up with the DRAIN and FILLS and have no shifting issues. smooth and nice

yea but doesnt the tranny have a magnet to collect and hold all the metal shavings that it drops?
and every how many mile are you supposed to do a tranny drain and fill?

the honda automatics dont have a magnet. that im aware of at least. vehicle pending, its one drain and fill every 30k. d trannies have about 12 quarts in them but only 2 1/2 comes out per service.

well ****, if it doesnt have a magnet im going to go to walmart and buy a freaking magnet and super glue it inside the tranny!
and if it does have a magnet, where should it be located at?
ive heard "in the deep side of the tranny where the oil is" and ive heard at the screw that you remove to drain the oil.

oh yes there is a magnet on the drain plug itself. sorry jumped the gun. now that i think about it, that is the only magnet inside the tranny. oh and no dont put a magnet in.
