Default PROBLEM WITH CLUTCH!!! NEED HELP QUICK!!!

ever since i started my car up this morning, the clutch has been catching a little quicker than normal...and eventually by the time i got back to my campus shortly after, the clutch wouldnt even disengage all the way, i could oush the pedal to the floor and it would just barely disconnect the plates...is it clutch fluid i need or a new clutch? cause if i n eed a new clutch then this sucks...i looked in the resovoir under the hood that i think is the clutch fluid one (smaller one to the right of the brake fluid on the right side of the bay??) and i didnt see any liquid in it at all...are u supposed to see any in it?? Like eventually at a light, if i had it in gear and the clutch down, the car almost stalled cause the clutch wasnt fully disconnecting the plates all the way (but if in neutral it was fine of course)....so if i went to downshift, i would put the clutch in and shift to the next lower gear, and i couldnt put it in gear cause i guess the clutch pedal wasnt fully disconnecting the plates and it felt very loose almost all the way to the floor...HELP!!! i was about to take a 1 hour ride to my house too!! whats the problem? i cant drive it right now at all!

sounds like your clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder are leaking. There should be fluid in there. Fill it up with brake fluid and bleed the air out of the system. Then look for leaks.

Have someone inside the car and push the pedal down, and then take an 8mm wrech and open the the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder. Open it until fluid comes out and then close it the screw and then have the person inside let the clutch out, make sure you close the bleeder screw before you let the clutch out so you don't get air back in.

The slave cylinder is right on the front of the tranny, you'll see the little bleeder screw sticking out from it. For the clutch fluid just buy regular brake fluid

bleed it from the slave cylinder.
while looking at the engine bay from the front of the car, next to the engine stamp is a bleeder valve.

that is for the clutch system.

if your clutch is slipping it is most likely your clutch.
if your having engage, disengage problems most likely it is a faulty hyrdaulic system (leak)

look under around the clutch pedal from inside the car to see streaks of fluid, and also under the hood by the reservoir.

i use regular dot 3-4 brake fluid.

is it necessarily a leak? or could it just be that i need to refill the slave cylinder reservoir with fluid?

a regular standard sized bottle will do. it is around 3-5 dollars. if you dont bleed the clutch you will have air in the system and experience the same problems as you are now.

there should be a marking on the reservoir. just fill it to the top, not to the rim, but so that it has ample fluid and you can put the cap back on.

probably a leak. you shouldnt have that signifigant loss of fluid without a leak.

it means your slave is leaking if fluid is under the motor, or your master is leaking if you find fluid at your feet. It also means your paint will peel off where it leaked, cuz brake fluid is corrosive to paint. What you do about it, is you replace the faulty parts.

edit: also wash fluid off paint with water, brake fluid is hydroscopic, so water will wash it off.

well, to get you home yeah... add fluid and drive... but you will need to replace your clutch master cylinder cuz it's leaking.

okay..i got some brake fluid and i filled the reservoir and bled the lines as best as i could...it was bled, no air or bubbles...the pedal eventually got a little stiffer and stopped sticking to the floor after pumping it numerous times with my hand....but the pedal is still not stiff enough like it should be and still catches too quick when releasing the clutch (in other words, the plates are connecting quicker than usual while releasing the clutch pedal..so instead of the usual like inch or two between the floor and the engagement point of the clutch, its like .5 inches or an inch btw the floor and the engagement point....is it gonna stay this way? do i have to replace the master cylinder? how big a job is this and how expenisive is the part and the job?? thanks

yes if the master is leaking it has a bad seal and will continue to leak. This is also the reason why it's not working right. Instead of fully pressurizing the slave cyl it's leaking pressure (and fluid) out.

The Clutch master is $89 brand new from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ it's #5 in this pic. You might be able to get a rebuilt one from Autozone, Pepboys, etc for less $$.
