primer question... encouraging rust?
hey everyone... i'm considering trading my car for one that's "primered". supposedly it was primered a green color, then wetsanded, and then "rattle canned" black primer overtop.
sort of worried me that it had been in a wreak, but i spoke to the owner before hand, and did a carfax and they were both clean.
anyways, i was wondering... i've heard of people on this forum and others saying a primered car will absorb moisture and encourage rust formation. is this true? how long is too long to run around with primer? is rattle can primer different then spray primer? is it worse or better? i've lived all my life wayyyy up north, and now living in the south there's no way in hell i'm ever going to own a vehicle with rust on it, so this is worrying me.
any info on primered cars? appreciate it everyone!
i'm also considering possibly... trading the car, selling parts off it, to make up the money i need to paint it, and going that route, but if it's been running around for "a few months" in primer, is this a very very bad thing?
thanks everyone!
appreciate it.

It does absorb water, but I don't think a few months is going to eat a big whole in the metal. If you are really woried about it, strip it back down to metal before you paint it. Then you will be able to see exactly what condition the metal is in. It is really better to do it this way if you can't personally vouch for the work, because it could be really ugly under there and look fine.

NO DONT USE PRIMER. Use a satin paint or flat. Its totally differant then primer. It will suck up water and rust the car.
