Im about to start a mini me build on my 96 cx hatch, Im curious to know if this car is pre-wired for vtec?

My buddy was telling me that was one difference between the 96-00 CX and DX hatches; one was prewired for VTEC and the other wasn't. I honestly can't remember which was which, so if nobody chimes in before Monday I'll ask him at work.

no non vtec '96 - '00 civic is prewired for vtec.

Neither CX or DX is wired for VTEC. The only Harness that's prewired for VTEC in that Chassis is EX and SI. So pick up an EX harness and you're good to go, or try out your luck on the CX harness. Not too hard to do.

so when you say prewired you mean the the harness thats plugs into the ecu is prewired? and all i have to do is get a ex or si engine harness to run vtec?

That is correct, I've done it myself. All you need to do to run a B-series VTEC is add a knock sensor wire and connector from the engine to the ECU.

Are all 92-95 cx and dx wired or just the 92? This is good to know as i have a 92 cx hatch that is soon to be swaped makes this job all that much easier

Just '92, CX and DX '93-'95 are not pre-wired.

Does anyone know if my '94 VX Hatchback is pre-wired for VTEC? I ask this because it already has VTEC-"E" which is the a different kind of VTEC. I just want to know if the wiring is the same if I were to do, say, a mini-me swap with another D-Series head with VTEC or even a full B-Series swap.

makes no difference

The vtec wiring on the VX is the same as the wiring for regular vtec, you'll just have some slight O2 sensor wiring modifications.
