Default Preventative maintenance before 500 mile trip

I will be driving my car about 500 miles next week. I'm fairly confident everything is in great mechanical condition, but slightly worried because i've never driven this far. About the most i've ever taken this car has been 120 miles away. The car has a brand-new vitara d16y7/z6 with about 800 miles on it. I changed the tranny fluid while the engine was out, made sure all gaskets are brand new oem besides the head gasket (cometic). Its got a KY Clutch in great shape. Before i leave i plan on changing the oil and topping off all my fluids and getting the car aligned. I've noticed the electric fan stays on a little longer since i put this engine in. The temp gauge never goes above where it stays, a tad below the half way mark. Anything to be concerned of? If you guys could tell me what you all normally do before a long trip such as this it would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by d16y7/z6? Which head is it?

Sounds like you should be fine. I always have an air compressor that plugs into a cigarette plug and my tire plug kit before long trips.

Something I usually do is clean my windows REALLY well. You would be surprised at how much your eyes will thank you if you don't have to squint through a glare or look through streaked glass. Get it done right, with a hose and a washrag, with newspaper to dry it off.

Do not use newspaper to dry your windows, this is an old thing people used to do. We now have much better products that are not dirty like newspaper to begin with.

Although cleaning your windows is a good idea.

It's what my grandpa taught me years ago. If it worked in the 60s, why shouldn't it work today? Glass is glass.

Technology. Get with it. They used to ride horse drawn carriages to go into town. Unless you're a Quaker/Amish no one does that **** anymore.

OP I usually travel with a gallon of coolant and a couple quarts of oil just in case. If you don't have an emergency roadside kit, get one. Make sure it includes jumper cables.

Okay. Then name some window-drying "technology" that is CHEAPER than newspaper AND does the job just as good. I'm waiting.

Who reads the newspaper anymore? Technology. Get with it. Paper towels work wonders. ****. Whip out a leaf blower. Dried windows in seconds.

And if you cared about your car you WOULDN'T use paper towels. Ever wonder why when you go to the optomologist they don't use paper towels to clean your glasses? Paper towels have small wood fibers in them that scratch glass. Don't believe me? Look it up.

Newspaper doesn't have wood fibers in it, so it leaves your glass unharmed.

Newspaper made from...paper? As in a tree was cut down to do it? A tree made of wood? And of course there are other things to use but you never answered my question; Who reads the "news"paper any more to be able to use it to clean their windows? Air has nothing in it but air. I've got an electric leaf blower that costs less in electricity than a newspaper to use to dry off my car and car windows.

Almost everybody I know reads the paper. And I'm guessing the inherent cost of purchasing a leaf blower doesn't count?
1$ newspaper
100$ leaf blower.

Get bent buddy. I'm tired of arguing over stupid crap.

I guess they don't have the internet or cable where you guys live. I get the news right to my phone.

I bought the leaf blower for blowing leaves. Using it to dry a car is a bonus. Bonus usually meaning free. Newspaper. That's your contribution in case he suffers a breakdown? He can read it while he waits for assistance.

Also OP, if you're just wanting a little more insurance for your trip a AAA membership might not hurt.

Well lucky you! Guess what? I don't need a leaf blower because I don't have TREES. And we all have the internet, it's just that comfort of reading a newspaper that sparks the imaginations of all the elderly. I can tell you haven't lived for very long... not everybody was born in 1997.

It would come in handy to have some tools on board. Any minor trouble can be fixed instantly. Dont forget the test light, some ripe bananas, a laundry soap bar and some cigarette even if you dont smoke.

Why would he need a cigarette if he doesn't smoke?

I do get the weekend paper but most of the time never touch it. Google about newspapers and glass, they are bad for it for other reasons. They do make large lens cleaner type clothes made for cars.

Also I was deeply thinking about taking a picture of me wiping a windshield with a monitor since it is what the news is on now a days but I am too tired after work to do such a thing.

Cigarette comes in handy if the wipers fail. Bananas for radiator, bar soap for fuel tank.
