Is it possible to convert a honda engine into diesel?

hmm, funny, but interesting, i would think the pistons, rings, would melt, it would be too hot in that combustion chamber.......plus u would need glow plugs for diesel
im curious too now.....lol

just wondering heh...it would be wicked though, hondas are already cheap on gas.

Im sure it can be done with many many thousands of dollars, but it wouldnt make any financial sense. If your all about saving money on gas than go for a cx engine and with intake and exhaust and reflash for it to be made to run more efficiently, im pretty sure that can be done

Gasoline engines and diesel engines are different animals. Converting from one to the other is not practical from an engineering perspective.
Now, mounting a diesel engine in a Honda? Different question.

If you can build the motor to withstand compression ratios of 22:1 or higher, go right ahead. If not, don't even try.
IMO, swap a diesel in a hatch. Good torque and lots of MPG. I would love to see the VW TDI motor swapped into a hatch. Drove one before, not bad with torque and pretty quiet.

Re: Is it possible to convert a honda engine into diesel? (frostcivic)
diesel runs at like half the temperature of gasoline, so gas in a diesel engine would melt the injectors in a second or so. you can put diesel in your engine, it will run, not well, might knock like crazy, and i dont know how long for. yea, itll run for a bit i guess, but it aint a good idea. go to http://www.howstuffworks.com and find the difference between how a diesel and gas engine run.
P.S. They have engines made with the right compression that CAN do both, usually gas runs better in those (there like military engines)

not on the stock block!!! you would have to totoly change the head and the block, the comp. on a diesel is much higher, if you have glow plugs it higher, but if you just have injectors (no glow plugs) it way high, you would have to change the rods pistions, crank, and man caps. too much to list

YES IT CAN BE DONE!!!
How you ask!
Well, first of all, you have to have a Civic (say 1996 is a good year)...
Then, you have to have a couple of thousand dollars... you go to a dealer and buy European Accord 2.2 iCDTi... 2200 and 140 HP with lotsaaaaaa torque...
They you take that biatch outta the accord and just SWAP IT into the Civic...
VOILA!!! You have the Civic diesel...

they need to make gasoline engines direct injection. hell w/ crappy low *** octane diesel you can run up in the low 20's:1 compression, just think if you had 93octane in there and injected it after the intake air was compressed. engines could have rediculously high compression(and run boost) and make way WAY more power.

You'll get people at the gas station all the time yelling "Hey, thats desiel fuel! No no, you don't understand, its desiel! No no, its not normal gas, its D-E-I-S-E-L"

youre going to need to find a way to make the engine able to stand 18:1 - 20:1 compression, and thats the least of your worries

why is that? there's already a natural gas powered civic out.
