Poor engine performance....suggestions please
well, i have a 94 civic vx, pretty much stock cai, cat back, plug wires.... not to go into cosmetics, and my engine is not pulling at all. I know its a vx and it has 92hp, and yea, its is a econo-halfbox, but the car is just not pulling like it did couple months back. It has 84,000 miles, and the engine looks sparkalinkg new, but when you drive it, its a whole different story. first of all, it loses power in 4th and 5th gear, by cutting out, kinda like the fuel or spark is not comming to it, and then also it boggs down between the gears. i've had the car for almost two years now, and this is the first time im having any problems with it. so pretty much, what im asking for, what should i do, to make this sucker move like it used to. im not burning oil or blowing smoke, it idles perfectly, it just has no power what so ever. should i try stuff like engine restorer, or octane booster....??! thanks guys!

Check ignition stuff.... ie: Plugs, Wires, cap, rotor, distibutor. Its probably one of those..... more than likely just one of the first 4, rather than the Distibutor.

If not any of those go ahead and replace your fuel filter I just changed mine and its almost like a new motor... could also be your fuel pump... also check your compression

Check the 3 main things your car needs to run: fuel, spark, and air. I bet it's something simple relating to one of these. Check your air filter, pop a plug and take a look at it...make sure it's not damaged or covered in gunk. You mentioned that you changed your plugs...what type did you put in? Please don't say it was some quadra or dual "spark" Bosch plugs...

Re:
thanks for the suggestions guys, i checked the plug wires, they all look good, the plugs in it are NGK's pretty new, installed about a month ago, they look just like they did when i put them in, like new, now im not sure how to check the distirbutor, so i just made sure all the wires were on it correctly. i didnt bother checking the fuel filter, since it was done by my mechanic recently, but i did throw a code, it was an 02 sensor code, do you guys think that could be a part of the problem? thanks again for the replys
as for the mini me, i did plenty of research, and it is not worth doing on a vx unless i replace the pistons, which im not gonna do for sure. cr would be way too low bcuz of the huge dish on the pistons, but thanks anyway

Re: Re: (Green_Hatch)
I know it might sound kind of like overkill, but take the car to your mechanic ( we like being called technicians now ) and have him run some tests on that O2 sensor. Make sure it's the O2 sensor that's messed up and not something else that's triggering the O2 sensor to throw a code.

It isn't possible bro. The 4 wire O2 sensors have the "extra" wires because they are what is called HO2S: Heated Oxygen Sensors. The HO2Ss have an electric heater in them to get them up to the proper operating temperature (about 600F) quicker.
