When you swap the cluster from an EX w/ a tach into a DX civic (1997), is it totally plug and play direct swap??

I have searched the world and cant find the directions on how to do this, thanks!

well since the DX does not have a tach and the EX does, wont there be any wires or sensors needing ran so that the tach works......jw. im in the same boat as the op

Yes, plug and play. Prewired already.

To retain your mileage, unscrew the 4 screws behind the speedometer and swap it into the EX cluster.

Your gauge cluster has a black trim around it which is held up by 2 screws and 2 clips. If you look at the top of the trim you will see the 2 screws. Remove them and then just pull on the bottom of the black trim (the bottom is whats held in by 2 clips, you can just pull and it will come off).

Once that is off you will see only 4 screws hold your actual cluster in place, pop those 4 screws off and then your cluster will just come right out... There are 4 plus in the back that just clip off and then clip on to your new clusters... its easier than it sounds, just need a phillips screwdriver...

While we're on this topic... I have an EX Manual car, but speedo is fcuked. Can probably get an automatic cluster (EX also) for cheap, but as indicated, it is AUTOMATIC. Does it really matter if my car is a manual? Everything will work correctly, right?

the ebay auctions say the ex automatic cluster works in the 5 speed.. so i dont see why not, u just wont know what drive mode you are in

A long time ago, I swapped the cluster in my celica, i had a manual, swapped the cluster, and didn't realize til i hooked it all up, that it was an automatic cluster, always had that little overdrive light on forever. then one day it burned out and i didn't replace it and all was well. that's it.
