pivot shift light (ASL-M)
does anyone have any experience with these lights? becuase i was just wondering if instead of using the cigarette lighter as a power source, u can just hardwire the shift light to a different power source......i guess wat im really asking is.....can i wire the shift light so that it doesnt have to plug into the cigarette lighter? pics of the shift light are below.....*image borrowed from jdmspecperf.com-sorry*

Re: pivot shift light (engineless)
thats a good question, i am wondering the same thing, it may have something to do with the frequency/vibration of the cig lighter current, but i have no clue so basically i can not answer your question but i will give you a bump.

the shift light somehow reads the revs of the car through the electrical frequency, you dont hook it up to the tack, the cig lighter might have something to do with it

well thats the problem, i heard something (from another post) about it working from the frequency that travels through the cig lighter.....how and where would i tap into such a source so that it would activate at the specified rpms...... making it light up whouldnt beeh a problem unless theres a tranformer that i need (im not to experienced with that stuff) its just making it work at the right rpms .....thanks to those that gave input.......please need more input, TTT! man these boards move fast!

Re: pivot shift light (engineless)
just hardwire into the cig. lighter behind the dash, that way you can still use it when you need it and the shift light will get the right signal to work.

Re: pivot shift light (engineless)
You can wire it into any 12 volt source I believe I didnt go through the cigarette adapter and it worked fine. Seems very accurate and consistant to gets from me.

you should be able to wire it to any 12volt power source being that you wire it up correctly. I'm about to do the same to my car as soon as the pivot shift lamp comes to me. good luck with yours

I used the ignition power wire but any power wire should be fine it just reads the alternator current to get its readings.
