So while trying to slide the wrist pin into the piston through the rod, it basiclly just stoped. The wrist pin is not dead center, its a little off. The wrist pin is right at the edge of the piston and it's sticking out anout .5mm out. Should i take it to a shop to press it in again or am i okay to run the piston like this? I really rather not spend any more money and time with this pistson but if i need to, i will.

They should be centered. they should have done it rigth the first time.

if it's really .5mm, I highly doubt a tap from a rubber mallet is going to damage them. I'm not talking about a full-armed swing here, just a bit of a massage to determine whether or not the wrist pin is locked against something or just being stubborn.

Yeah, i tried that already and it wouldn't budge. I got the wrist pin inside by heating the rod up so while it was still hot, I used the rubber mallet and nothing happend.

I did try the rubber mallet and it would hit the piston instead of the wrist pin. The mallet is no where close to get contact with the pin. I'd probably smash the piston before i get to the wrist pin haha

Try taking a deep socket and sticking it in there and hiting the socket with the mallet.

Is there a lubricant that is supposed to be on it to help it fit.

This is a bad idea. The rubber mallet won't hurt the pin or the piston. A socket potentially could.

This is why we get a machine shop to assemble the pistons and rods

Err, aren't wrist pins supposed to be pressed in with a press?

It's not expensive to have done at a machine shop.

Machine shop would charged me $15 for one rod+piston to be pressed, so times that by 4. I got 3 out of the 4 piston to fit perfectly, just this one was a little off.

Your not surpose to use lubricant to push the wrist pin threw the piston and threw the rod. You'll break the rod or even the piston. No way lubricant would help, you have to heat up the rod and push the wrist pin threw.

How much does a new piston cost? Beat on it a little, you might find out.

Did you say you did it? or a shop did? If the shop did it and it isnt perfect then take it back and tell them to redo it. if you did it, then take the one in and have it done right. I'd rather spend $15 and time to get it done right so i can sleep at night and not have to worry everytime I beat on the engine. Besides, $15 and some time now could save you a lot $$$ and a lot more time down the road.

Your advice seems to be the best so far. I pressed the 3 out of 4 wrist pins myself and they in perfect position. Looks like i have no choice, although i did save some money doing 3 out of 4 myselt. Machine shop it is!
