performance vs. style
i got a 1998 dx civic coupe. the guy is going to teach me how to drive standard. the car has 33,000 miles on it and i will be moving to SF in 2 years. In SF they have buses and most people use the bus on weekdays to get around and use their cars on the weekeds. the question is performance or style? if i go performance ill save up for engine swap and be faster sooner. if i go style ill have the looks and when i put enough miles on the car then ill have engine swap then. if it istrue that in SF people use the buses more then i would go style for now and save for swap and use the car as a weekend toy. I have saved up $2,000 for now. i think i this post is clear, i think.

I used to live in SF for 2 years going to school. It's pretty easy to use the bus, unless you're going to be driving far or going home, the bus can take you around hte city pretty much. You wont need it much except for the weekends or going on trips.

Just my opinion, people can flame but this is who i am. BOTH!!! too me u cant have one without the other, i want to look good around the streets because its great gettin the love, but i do want the performance to lay the smackdown on all the haters and people that think just because u have 18's and ur cars slammed, or basically u have more of a show look, that u arent slow. Thats just me i love to prove people wrong u know, because people love to judge a book by its cover. different strokes for different folks, but thats how i look at it, either way follow ur heart and make people respect u for what u want to do, eventually people will if u are doing what u want and u stand behind it

Let me break this down for ya'.
San Fran, don't even try to drive, their BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) system is great, you'll pay more for parking.
Not only will you look like a dumbass putting money into a slow car with an ecomony engine, but chicks will laugh, and that is sooo much worse.
For two years you can drive a car with performance, have a lot of fun, to me, perfect style is a nice drop, and some dope wheels while keeping the body clean. I laugh at body kits, paint chips, can't drive over speed bumbs, NEVER oem fit. You get into a wreck, you lose, insureance doesn't pay ****. In a wreck with engine work you'll almost always be able to get the parts back...
Trust me, a friend lives in San Fran, he doesn't know where his car is parked anymore since he has not driven it in months!

Re: performance vs. style (w00t!)
i live in oakland ( the counter part of the sf\oakland bay bridge). if i was you, i would get the paint rims, etc... what ever you're feeling... as far as power i feel you on that one...i love the power... but chances are you're gonna use the muni(sf bus services) or BART as mentioned above....
he's correct, if your gonna travel around the bay its much cheaper(really depends) to travel on bart...parking is SF is killer.... i only go there at night because of parking.....
hope this helps

Re: performance vs. style (showspeed.com)
Here's my opinion...like you care
My approach is from the performance aspect. I want my ride to fly, and really dont care if it is bling bling. I want some nice finishing touches but dont want anything that "appeals to the masses." Also, the bling bling factor probably makes the car more attractive to theft. Maybe it's because I am 29 but I really dont care if some 18 yo punk thinks my ride looks sweet. But then again, when I was 18 I had the lowrider Impala on Daytons. But I aint 18 no more, so performance for me.

i live in frisco and i drive all the time.. i drive to school (SF State) and to work.. the only thing that sucks is the parking downtown. u will not find parking.. so it'll be better taking the BART..

Re: performance vs. style (FifthGearOnline)
when i mean style i mean liek suspension, bodykits, struct bars, ect, when i say performance i mean engine swap, i/e/h, nitrous and such. i know SF parking is hell and traffic, thats why i think this car will just be a weekend toy. i cant go both cuz i plan ona engien swap if i performance.

TEIN coilovers, 15 or 16" rims w/ good tires.
Dual purpose - looks mean, performs mean. just don't go cheese cuse it's cheaper.
Homiedrop coilZ and ADRs ain't gonna cut it if you want real performance.

One will win shows, the other will win races, it's up to you which is more important
If cops pull u over your fucked if ur not street legel or your caught driving fast
but whats a good looking car if it's slower then hell, like mine
