Well all the painting is done.. i ended up doing the corner lights also so that they didnt look outta place. the corner lights are back together already and the headlights are gettin ready to be put back into the over to put them back together.. I used duplicolor gunmetal then sprayed duplicolor clear on top of it. ill get up pics when i can.

Re: painting sol headlights (kent)
after i baked them in the oven at 250 for like 8-9 minutes... i just stuck a butter knife on the edge and pryed up enough to get my fingers in then i just pulled them apart.. they almost just fell apart.

Man, I don't know how you could touch them after they come out of the oven! I can't. I have to pry them with 2 screwdrivers until I can pull them apart with my hands and even then I use towels so that I don't burn myself. Here is a pic of one of my headlights I did.

Oh yeah and to answer your question, I primed them first and then painted them with a high temperature engine enamel, since I know that it gets kinda warm inside that headlight housing.

Re: painting sol headlights (95DelSolSI)
ok here are some pics and a short how-to below them.. tomorrow im planning on taking them back off the car and sanding and buffing them to get the 8 years of grime off the covers.
ok here is the how-to....
prep: preheat over to 250
1st remove bumper (if you cant even figure this out then stop.)
2nd remove healights
3rd remove everything you can take off the housing and anything that unscrews
4th once oven is preheated place in oven on baking sheet for 8-10 minutes
5th take out of oven and using a butter knife pry between the housing and the cover til you can get your fingers in there its not that hot so dont worry then pull the cover the rest of the way off slowly.
6th tape off parts you dont want painted
7th use something abraisive (i used steel wool but you could you a mid grade sand paper 600-800) to scuff up the crome crap you are painting (helps paint to stick)
8th primer the areas to be painted
9th paint.... then clear cout if you would like i did
10th once dry place the cover back on them as firmly as possible then place back in oven for another 8-10 minutes..
11th take out of oven then press the cover the rest of the way on and replace the clips around the headlight you removed earlier.
12th put everything back together

Re: painting sol headlights (CubanSol)
That looks great!
Thank you very much for posting this up. I've wanted to see what the headlights look like when they're painted.
Do you think you could take some more pics? Maybe in the daytime...?
What kind of paint did you use? How many coats?
On the corners: Did you paint the inside of the lens or the reflector?
Sorry for all the questions

Looks good. I've been thinking about doing this for a while but couldn't afford to screw up a pair of headlights or buy a new set. Maybe I'll try it this summer.

Re: painting sol headlights (josups)
to do the amber corners, first you buy some yellow stained window paint, and then u paint the corners, and the more coats you apply the more amber it will turn

Re: painting sol headlights (clm)
I've been wanting to try this too. Glad to see it works out fine. They look really good. Do you have any pics of the areas that you taped off or pics of the paint being applied. I'd just like to know what I'm working with before I take them apart. Thanks again. to a job well done!

Re: painting sol headlights (purek9hybrid)
Thanks for the post. I was wondering if I could do this to the sol headlights. I will be doing this in the next couple of weeks.
I also have painted the corner lights. I used krylon stained glass paint. On the can near the UPC code there is 9023 Orange. That should be a part # or something. It worked so good a bunch of people thought I bought new lights.
