painting the headlights
Well, I just got done baking and separating my brand new headlights.. I was getting ready to paint the chrome but is it necessary to sand and primer?

Re: painting the headlights (EJ8 Kenobi)
Most definetly. It will pay off. The more time you spend on them.. the better they will look. And i dont think you HAVE to primer but i would prolly just to adhere the paint better.

I would primer, but not sand. The headlights are made of this sort of brittle material (really cheap plastic) and then are coveredin foil. Cleaning up all that glitter would be a pain in the ***. I've never sanded a set, always just primered. Mine have lasted YEARS.

I've seen it too, first hand. First time I did a pair, I used regular white masking tape. Took up a nasty little spot in the signal reflector housing.
Use green 3M Automotive painter's tape from Autozone or wherever. Very light adhesive.

hey mine turned out pretty well except a few errors but they look good.. I'll get some pics.
I didn't sand I just primered then painted. With with a darker-than-ctr charcoal metallic. On a black coupe.. looks sharp
