Default Painting Fender

Ok, i painted my fender 3 weeks ago, and it came out like ****... first it was oranged peeled to the max... i forgot to add reducer

Question is how much do i add?(Reducer)

I have 1 pint of paint.. so how much reducer do i add? and so on...
to get the paint look good and shinny with no orange peel

Also what bout clearcoat.. just spray on? or certain steps?

ok, all paints are different. because some paints require 3 steps. paint, reducer and harder. so i guess you did a two stage paint because you are asking about clear.

it sounds to me like you did a single stage paint though because you said it has orange peel and shine.

so respond with single or two stage paint, and what brand of paint you have and we might be able to find out what ratio you need

im me if you want

*edit* you might just need to wet sand and buff to get rid of the orange peel

two staged i guess; basically spray the baecoat and add reducer as i was told from uncle and then clearcoat it, and paint is called OMNI AU (Coucher)basecoat .. note i know im not gunna use 1 pint of paint on the fender, so what do u recommend using so i can measure cups out and everything right...

the ratio i use when i paint is 4:2:1 (paint/reducer/hardner). you can thin paint down basically how thin you want it. actually some guns will require some paints thin while another gun can use the same paint thicker.

just pour some paint in a mixing cup, add a little reducer and stir, take the stir stick out, if it coats the stick and runs off but still coating the stick its perfect, but if the color immedatly runs off the stick then its too thin, but if it drips slowly then its to thick.

allow proper flash time between coats then get ready to spray the clear. most paints will ask to wait 1-4 hours before you clear so make sure you read the bottle.

make sure when you wet sand the orange peel you still use a block or a paint stirring stick to make a flat surface, never use sandpaper in your hand.

good luck

Hey, If your doing a base clear you want to add hardener I believe it is. Find out where you got the paint from and ask them for a TEXT sheet these should have your ratios of what you add of base:hardener. Do the same for the clear, but I believe that clear coat uses reducer. Same kind of idea though. Your orange peel is probably coming from not sanding the primer down properly. Go to a body shop supply store and ask them if they have Guide coat, and how to use it. That should solve that problem. any other questions im me

Um...orange peel is all in the application of the paint, not the mixture. Also, the pint of paint you have will have reducing instructions on it specific to that brand and quality. Sometimes it's a simple 4/2/1 paint/reducer/hardner but sometimes it's 8/3/1, sometimes it's 6/2/1, etc.

I've painted many cars. Quality comes from patience, experience and finding the right temperature range that allows the paint to wet and flow without running.
