Personally, I would get the engine. a while back I had the chance of painting my car from a nasty white to whichever color I wanted, or saving up for a few more months and getting my gsr swap... I chose the paintjob because my car got hit in a hit and run, and I got tired of looking at it, I wish I wouldve gotten my engine first, because in my own mind, Id rather have something fast and pretty ugly, than nice looking and slower than a sack of dog ****.

You could ask anyone that seen my car (SOHC4life 96 will give his 2 cents i just know it) that it looks like **** and should be put to sleep. I got primer/blk/fucked up windshield/missing a sideskirt/etc My car looks like ****!

But its fast as hell

Edit: Didnt read that you had rust. Get the rust fixed then go with engine, screw a paint job.

honestly,
alot of ppl are going to say engine,
go over show..

but seriously, if you CAN get a fresh paint job, DO IT,

mechanically, you can always replace things, fix things, upgrade,
until the end of the earth, swap in new engines, rebuild them, etc..

but your car only has one body,
and its what you, and every sees when you roll down the road.

you'll feel alot better about your car, and any mods you do to it later on down
the line, if its in mint condition, in the color you want.

well u could go either way... go for an engine and get some badass power or you could go for looks more than anything and just do the paint job.. personally i'd rather go with paint but that's just my preference cuz my car just looks like a piece of **** on wheels. but it's up to you

i think i'm more towards the side of getting a paintjob, but they seem to be so expensive, i called up so places and they charge 2000 dollars for a really good paint job, i 'm a bit hesitant about macco cuase i heard they don't do a great job, nyone one know how good of a job macco does? o nyone know

Do some of your own body repair... ie: rust prevention etc. And then motor motor motor.

macco does horrible, from what ive heard, they just spray it and go, thats why its so cheap, then the paint falls off about a year or 2 later. Paint jobs are expensive, but if you think about it, its also A LOT of work. all the sanding, bondoing, all that crap, it takes a long time. but in the end, its all worth it. If you could, just do the temp. fix, get your engine then get it painted later if you still want.

I don't think it should be put to sleep, just covered up till you get a paint job. And while you're getting the body finished, you could stock pile the go fast parts. But his car does look like a piece. Oh you forgot about your fucked up CF hood too.

If I were you I would get the engine. But you need to make up your own mind. Don't rely on everyone else to make decisions for you.

basically what people are saying here is pretty much on the dot.

but to add my .02, all things put aside, if your car is something you're into and one which you plan to keep for a long time, the overall well-being of the car should always be #1. if your current motor is ready to die on you, then sure, i'd get a motor swap if you were planning on doing so anyway. but if your stock motor is running just fine for the time being, i would focus my attention on the rust that could potentially spread like cancer and cause a whole plethora of problems in the future that will make you wish you took care of when it would have costed $ instead of $$$$$ and taken x many hours instead xxxxxx hours to fix.

but if you really don't give a rats *** about what your car looks like today, nor what it will look like in several years, then..**** it? that's your prerogative- there's nothing wrong with that. get your motor, and whatever else you wanna do to it, and enjoy its speed. take "luserkid" for example- he has no regrets.

Well how much is the paint job and how much is the swap? One big factor for me is price. If you have enough to go with the swap Id say just get the swap if your going to paint it not to long after you do the swap. But other then that if the paint job is going to take you a while to save up for then do the paint job first because you might not want to run so many miles until it is "completely done"....but yea thats just my 2 cents!?!

If it is your daily driver, i would fix the body first. If you get the stock color you can save some money.

I would personally go with a paintjob first. I don't trust leaving my car at the paintshop with an upgraded engine in it.
