i want to know too. my car got burnt in nov and i just dropped the motor into a different car but it doesnt turn over now.

install into known working car, if no CEL and car runs correctly you're good to go.
that's the only really good way to do it.
a crude way to do it is to pull the top cover and look for anything that's corroded or burnt. But there are a lot of things that could still be wrong with it.
