Out with B-series in with the D-series (ZC)
I finished the swap. it simply to say wasn't fun. first the weather in the -15 range simply sucked. (did it in the garage) then the first motor, had super low compression so I needed to exhange it for another one. all else wetn rather smooth, few bugs still need to be straighten out. but its got nice feel to it.
the motor is a JDM SOHC VTEC ZC with S20 LSD tranny.

Previous setup : JDM B18C

Re: Out with B-series in with the D-series (redcxhatch)
why swap for d-series?
1) too much theft in the area. if the car gets stolen, insurance will not pay for the motor (extra $4000). while if they take the ZC what the hell can they do to a $800 setup?...
2) to run some autox series in stock class
3) homemade turbo setup. cheap to replace motors and very inexpensive to make a kit
4) collecting money for a house
5) finishing school
6) something different

What year engine is that from? The D16y8s dont say vtec on the valve cover.. I dont really care about the vtec but I hate when people walk up to me and say thats its not a vtec just because the valve cover doesnt say it..

Re: Out with B-series in with the D-series (acydphryck)
Nice clean swap.
I'd go D before B too.
I just love the look on someones face when they see a SOHC beat their DOHC.
I've taken B18A/B's no problem. the B16/B17 barely pulls, but the B18C1/5 does take my smile away. Can't wait to run my SOHC/turbo to a GSR. It'll be close, just running 4psi.

Thats a nice job...
Just wondering what shop do you work for and I remember you ran a Zex Cam before, are you able to get those for a D16Y motor and are you going to be running one on your new ZC SOHC motor??
and is the S20LSD tranny hard to get and how much does it go for??

Re: Out with B-series in with the D-series (eg6ajk)
I had the exact same motor in my hatch before I got my b18c1 swap
It was a little quicker than my original d15b7 motor, but NO where near or even coming close to my b18c1 swap.
and whoever asked if it will fit your d16y8 tranny, yes it will.
I put my old ZC sohc motor on my oem dx tranny and bolted up fine.
But nothing can compare to a GSR motor in a hatch or unless its a b18c5 or h22a

hey good thinking and nice work! **** ITS COLD OUT... I just finished removing my tranny, and yes it was hella cold. I know how you felt
its all about the tranny with LSD... are you going to get a Final Drive maybe? That would be a great addition to that ZC setup dont you think?
so would you come down to Buffalo for a few autocrosses this year? I need some good competition
