Opportunity to buy k20, please read!
Unfortunately for my friend, his 03 Si decided to lose traction going around a turn in the rain 2 days ago and he wrapped the car around a lightpole and insurance says the car is totalled. He is parting out the entire car and I am really interested in buying the motor...
Right now, I have a GSR swap in my 92 Si hatch. If I do buy his motor, I intend to do an RSX-S head and transmission swap. I wanted to know if anyone thought it would be better for me to keep my GSR and continue to mod it, or sell it and use the money to buy the k20 off of my friend and mod it.
He is selling me the motor for $1,000 and it only has 39000 miles on it. No damage from the wreck. I need opinions before I decide what to do with the motor.
Thanks.

I say buy the motor from him.. Keep your GSR and sell the engine to someone else and get a few bucks out of it to turbo your GSR

I agree buy it and build it like you said, head, tranny, etc... then install everything and if you have another car to drive like I said "if" you could sell the gsr now and use the money to go towards the k20, mounts, axles, etc...

For $1000, I would buy a k24a instead... They can be found for that price fairly easy. Then later on, down the road, get the k20a2 head and have a great setup..
The k20a3 motor has shitty internals.. Even with a k20a2 head , you will still will not have waht you think you will have..

There are approximately 400,000 cars in the US with K24s in them. This will be the swap that will make the K swaps mainstream. There will be well over a million K powered cars from Honda on the road within the next two years. Their sheer numbers will insure that the engine will remain reasonable in cost. I predict that in the next 6 months or so, someone will come out with K24 cams that will allow the engine to make 200hp without doing a head swap.
It's also a better engine for boost. They come with a very strong crank and lower compression than the K20s. But the big reason is the 2.4 liters of displacement. I would venture to say that with the correct aftermarket designed cams and a JR supercharger with K-pro you could get 300 hp from an otherwise stock K24A1. And it would have 200 ft/lbs of torque too.

yeah, like stated before...the K series will take over, so why not be a pioneer and be amongst the first to do it.

Not that I'm doubting you or anything but can you show me a site that sells k24a1's or even the k20a3 with shitty internals for 1K?

home slice
i know where one is sitting right now and I can get for dirt cheap (less than 1200 bux)
but hey who needs a k24 anyways , but it shure would be nice to have the torque

Brain G - knows his stuff...I would not even question him. I got this reply from a salvage yard out in Mass. (near boston)...BTW this is for a complete LONGBLOCK
"Greg,
That engine is a '03 Accord 2.4L, with a 5 in the 6th digit of the VIN. The engine has 5k on it and goes for $900. If you have any further questions or would like to order it, feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Bob @ LKQ/RT16"
you need to look around - other places quoted me as high as $1500 - but i found others right around the $1,000 range. if you are lucky you could find one cheaper

I didn't question the potential of the engine since I am aware of that. I just didn't believe the price especially for a newer engine. I mean we all know B16s are around the 1200+ range so it didn't seem right to find K24 to be lower than that. Maybe because of the less demand right now.

that motor = worthless and is almost as same as swaping a B series into your car HP wise. Nobody wants it, thats why its so freakin cheap

OK, I will try yo make is as simple as possible...
FOR USA:
The new 4 cylinder Accord, Element and CRV all have the k24a. The acura TSX has the k24a but yields 200HP instead of 160 because of the k20a type-r style head.
So basically you have 4 car platforms you can get the k24a from in the USA without waiting on JDM importers to rip you off

Re: Opportunity to buy k20, please read! (EGlovr)
K24a2 is out of the TSX (basically same head as RSX-S) (10.5 CR ratio)
K24a1 is out of the 2003+ CRV (9.6 CR ratio)
K24a4 is out 2003+ Accord & element (9.7 CR ratio)
EDIT - these motors have a 99mm stroke (so i wouldn't suggest reving to 8,000+ rpm all day long)- the block sits 19.7mm higher than K20's so you will need to take that into account when getting a header & closing the hood (maybe)

The hardest thing meaning $$$$ in the whole equation is the 6 Speed tranny.... The rsx type-s one without LSD or the type-r one with LSD and the 4.764 final drive.
To save money, I would even go with the shitty 5 speed EP3 tranny that everyone hates
