ZC's are cable tranny I think? So they will be harder...

The 1st gen B-series will be harder...I'd get a later model engine...

Yeah a B20 will swap just like a B16 or B18...
EDIT: A B20 from an OLD Prelude will NOT swap in like a B20 from a CRV. You'll need the B20 from the CRV...

The 92 has a hydrolic tranny correct? So anything with a Hydro tranny will swap it the easiest, while a cable tranny will get tricky...

Also remember, the H-series and F-series motors use totally different mounts than the B-series, so don't plan on swapping an H22A without some extra parts.

In my personal opinion, if you have money, the B18C1 is hard to beat.

If money is slim, maybe a D16Z6 or a B18B?

Another topic worthy of pointing out:

96+ USDM motors have OBD-2 (you probably knew that), and IMO, OBD-2 is no good.

Try to find a motor before 1996.

I don't know about that one. Not hard to wire up, you don't have to wire up all the obd2 stuff. I have a 99 b18c1 in my car and it rips. Very strong engine and only less than 40k miles. Not a big deal to put in an obd2 motor. Just my 2 cents.

ZC don't drop right in either. Your CX should already be wired for VTEC cause it's a '92. Most '92 came wired for it. If not, it's easy to hook up, two wires is all. Or go with the B18B or B18A. B18B straight drop and no VTEC to hook up. Same with the B18A, but you'll need a hydro tranny.

Where did you get this information? That is incorrect since the 1992-up Civics COME with a hydro tranny already.

You can swap in a B20 from a CR-V if you get a different tranny like an Integra LS, Integra GS-R, or Del Sol VTEC or 1999-2000 Si and use the axles and shift linkage, etc. from the Integraor Civic Si or Del Sol VTEC. Also you'll need a different intake manifold since the B20B had the tall-*** manifold and the B20Z has the plastic box that has too many hoses coming from it.

Easiest swap would be 1994-1995 Integra swap. You can also swap in an OBDII motor with no problems if you use the OBDII engine harness because it PLUGS right into the underhood harnesses on the 1992-1995 Civic. On a 1992 CX you will NOT have to wire up VTEC but if you're going B18C1 (GS-R) you will need to wire up the knock sensor and secondary butterflies if using a P72 ECU. If running an LS swap it will be total plug and play if you run an OBDI 1994-1995 LS P75 ECU.

You skip having to wire up all of the OBDII crap if you run an OBDI ECU.

I currently run a B18C5 OBDII motor in my own car with the Type R engine harness plugged right in and a re0chipped P28 ECU in my 1992 CX. I did not wire up one single wire and it works just fine. A re-chipped P28 doesn't look for a knock sensor so I didn't have to wire one up.

Another easy swap would be a B16A3 from an OBDI 1994-1995 Del Sol VTEC. Should all swap over except for the shift linkage.

Yet another great swap would be the second-gen B16A (grey plug OBDI) swap from Japan. These came out of the JDM EG hatches and they pump out 170hp and the whole swap goes for $2350.00 plus shipping from:

Anothe B16A swap would be the 1999-2000 B16A2 swap from the 1999-2000 Civic Si. My fiancee' has one in her 1992 Civic Si hatch and it wasn't hard at all. Not every piece bolts right in though - mounts are a small question and you will have to move the coil wires on the distibutor, but all in all it'sstill a very easy swap.

ZC swap would be an option *if* you can get the hydro ZC that was rare in the Japanese EG from an importer. I'm sure there are ways to get the older ZC to work by bolting it up to a hydro D-series tranny, but WHY?

Lastly you can put in a first0gen cable trannied B16A in, but WHY?

By the time you buy the HASport mount kit and cable to hydro convertor piece that;s an extra $650 or so right there. Then you still need to get a P28 reprogrammed just to run in as well which will cost more money.

IMO the first-gen B16A swap into a 1992-1995 Civic is a bad idea. You will 9 out of 10 times end up spenging MORE money just to get it to work than you would have on the better 170hp OBDI second-gen version.

David I hate to say this, but of you want to play this time you're probably going to have to pay.

$1,200 for a second-gen swap is unheard of. I'm sure there have been some killer deals but on the average you won't find one much cheaper than $2,300 or so + shipping.

Honda Parts Connection in GA has the LS full swaps for like $1,400 - that would be your best bet IMO. Local yards rule because you can see the donor car and know for sure about the mileage and condition.

I've never owned an engine that I didn't see the donor car and the condition and odometer from it.
