Ok to by a used a/c compressor
in my dd, a stock 97 civic ex, the compresspr locked up the other day at 116k. I want to keep ac, but a new compressor is 400+. A local shop says they have a couple that will fit. Is it ok to buy a used one and just recharge the system...or is there more i have to do. Please let me know
thanks

Re: (c1civic)
No...don't waste your money on a new compressor. I bought one off ebay that works perfectly on my 92 hatch, taken from a 94 civic with 100k. Give the compressor a spin (twist the top where the pully goes). It should move effortlessly. If it's stiff or barely moves it's a dud. Blow some air in the holes to get any dirt out and use the correct oil, and you'll be fine. Don't forget to vacuum before recharging or it's a waste of time.
