Default ok so im a noob, need brake help, like NOW please

ok so i put some performance brake shoes on the rear drums of my 92 hatch. almost all back together now (i ABSOLUTELY hatesprings), but 2 problems:

1: the drum doesnt fit back over the shoes
2: i have 3 pieces that i have NO frikken clue as to where they go except for "somewhere on the brake shoes".

i know, i know, im a noob, get over it. im learning.

now the 3 pieces:

A: a spring about 2" long, hook to hook
B: a spring about 1" long, hook to hook
C: a small metal piece (not the handbrake fastener and not the adjustible lenght thing under the long 5" spring) about 2" long and well i duno how to explain it i'd have to cee a diagram

anyways, i need to know how to put this back toghether, i have work soon and theres no way i can walk. thanks.

EG Drums:

Did you take both sides apart? Can you look at the other side and try to match it up?

I don't know how the EGs are, but my EK has a central tow hook on the rear that is a central jack point.

**** this is why I never messed with my drums myself, they are a bitch!!

As far as I know, I've heard that there is a special tool for getting the springs back on (my brother is taking automotive classes and he told me to not mess with the drums for that reason).

Could you use your stock spare jack to hold the car up while you switch it out? Maybe a block or something under the LCA bolt on the chassis?

Did you look at the diagram? What parts are you having trouble with figuring out?

yea i am using the spare jack but as for now, checkign the other side isnt really an option because i verry weary of the stability that tow hook will provide as a jacking point. the parts im having trouble with are part 12, part 25/31 and part 24/30. i just have no idea where they go, the diagram shows SOME indication but not really helping ATM

Dont know what to tell you. Spend 15 bucks and get a Haynes manual. Manuals are a DIYers best friend.

gona have to walk to the store to buy that manual eh?

and i have been hesitating to get a manual when as soon as i get money, my car is going to be no longer considered a honda civic VX, itll have parts from all sorts of models, eg: rear LS disk conversion (i REALLY want to do this now since drums are gay), all around DC2 suspension upgrades, LS/VTEC build etc etc

Well the civic manual will help with your brake swap, and just get a teg manual for the DC2 ****. I bought a prelude manual just for the H22 info.

Only work on one side of drum brakes at a time. That way you can see if you forget how the parts go back on. Drum brakes are not that bad provided you have the "Right" tools to put the springs back on

put your tire under the middle part of the car, near the corner that you took off the tire.

Lower your car down onto the tire, it will hold, I do this all the time.

Raise up the other side and take the drum off and look at that side and where they go.

For future reference, instead of trying to engineer a way to get the other side of the car up he could have adjusted the shoes in, put the drum and wheel on and then went and looked.

As for the "special tool" it does exist but a pair of needle nose pliers and a pick work just fine.

A perfect example on WHY you need to have a Helms manual before you touch a car.

99% of his problem could've been solved if he only forked over the money. I would've gotten the tech manual before I got the drum parts. I hope this is a good lesson for him.

I just walk in the next room and get the factory service manual.
