Default Oil question

So I went into autozone to buy oil for the oil change and I asked the guy what the difference is in oil grades. He said 10w-30 is for engines under like 70k miles, 10w-40 for like 70k to 115k, and then he said 20w-50 is for 120k+ or something like that. What do you guys think? My car has 165k and I've always used 10w-30 because my dad has always used that one so I just went with what he said

Care to explain why it should be the high mileage?

210k here, all stock, I run Castrol 5w-30. Not the synthetic, just the regular stuff.
