Picked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge but I had a quick question I couldn't find the answer in the billion threads about the oil pressure sending unit.

Does the oil pressure sending unit affect VTEC engagement?

I know vtec works off oil pressure but is this sending unit only for the dummy light? or would removing it to thread in a gauge keep my vtec from engaging. I really don't NEED the light.

If I need it for vtec I'll probably end up getting a sandwich plate...

Get a sandwich plate any way for easier installation. It does NOT affect VTEC. I don't see how it could.

Ive had a few questions on that too... i unfortunatly have the sunpro one... can i get a pressure plate for the sunpro one.. and what exactly is the pressure plate??

A pressure plate is part of you're clutch system. A Sandwich plate is a plate that goes into the oil filter fitting on the block and allows you to run a few oil lines from that location, in between the oil filter and the block.

i honestly have no clue cause the sunpro one comes with a sender unit that you have to get steel braided lines if you want it done rite so that you can keep the dummy light but i found a adapter plate thing made by glowshift taht screws onto the oil filter spot and the oil filter scresw onto the adapter and the sending unit screws into the side

I'm running a Sunpro mechanical oil pressure gauge and I have no idea what you're talking about with this dummy light thing. And you don't have to get any steel braided lines.

Its not hard to understand what the guy is talking about.

By dummy light he means the oil pressure light that comes on when you are low on oil.


To answer the OP's question, go to an hardware store, look in the plumbing isle and buy a 'T' fitting. Thread the fitting into the block, and attatch both sensors to the open ends. This will let you run the gauge AND keep your stock oil pressure sensor. Thats the cheapest way to solve your issue with no compromise. Other then that, you will need to get that sandwich plate adaptor which is bascially the same as a T fitting only larger and more expensive.

hes not asking what he should get, he asking how he can work with what hes got. Mechanical gauges work just fine.

Ive installed a few gauges in my car, 3 different ones in mine alone.

The idiot/dummy light does not effect VTEC engagement, I actually kept it on the car with the first 2 gauges, and took it out with the last one.

As for your pressure sender, You can do 1 of 2 things.
1. Unscrew the idiot light sender out of the back of the block, run your lines, thru the fire wall and to the back of the gauge. Done

2. Get a T fitting with 1 male end, and at least 2 female ends. They will all be 1/8th npt fittings. The pressure sender can screw into one of the ports, and the idiot light can go into another that way it still works if you want it there. Its your choice.

Sandwich plates are not neccasary, but its not going to hurt anything either. Im boosted, and use just a T fitting. One port for the gauge, and the other for the feed line.

I'm putting in a new electric oil press. gauge and removing my mech. gauge. Where is the best place to put the sensor? I was thinking somewhere on the head since that is the last place to get oil from the pump. I figure if I don't have oil press at the last place to get oil press., then I must not have press. anywhere in the engine. Does this make since, or am I reading into this too much?

Reading too much into it. If you don't have pressure, you don't have pressure period. I wouldn't worry too much about the optimal spot. Just replace the mechanical sender with the sensor.
