I stored my del for the winter (5 months since it ran) and i have not started it at all, just left it alone. I changed the oil when i put the car in storage so it had clean oil circulating throughout and coating everything, and its dino oil.

Since its been sitting for 5 months, is it still safe to use or should i change the oil?

I would change it when you get a chance.

You can keep the same oil. Just add a quart to get some oil into the head. You can then drain about quart out down below.

might sound like a dumb question by why should i change it to begin with? Does the oil breakdown over time?

I see no reason to replace the oil based on storge. The bigger issue would be the fuel in the tank. If was stored empty or close to it condensation may have contamined the gas. When storing a vehicle for the winter keep it full of fuel. No air in the tank = no condensation.

Oil is funny in temperature variants, it gels when it's too cold. During the temperature drops and raises over the course of winter I'd say it's condition is pretty queer. It's not dirty, but it's probably not the smooth like it should be, wouldn't be surprised if you have some chunks of oil or some **** in there.

Change the oil. Not just one quart, the entire thing.

if it sits longer than 3 months you should change it.

No, I'm not joking. Some people don't put on 3k so they say change it 3 months or 3000 mi, whichever comes first.

Following what you're saying if you left the car to sit for 1 year you'd have to change the oil 4 times, even if it was never started over the course of that year.

Anyways, at op, yes, change it, as I originally stated...well that's my opinion anyways, do what you want with it . Your call in the end.

When you long-term store a car you're supposed to go out and fire it up for 15 minutes or so to get all the components lubricated, stop rust/corrosion, get fluids circulating, etc. I don't know if you're supposed to do that every month but it seems to me doing that every 2 wouldn't be a bad idea.

If you've let it sit over the winter, you probably are best off draining all the oil and putting in fresh. You'll get oil into the head that way, which is good since it's got to be bone dry up there.
