oil burning
my civics burning oil..not that much but it definately is, no smoke on start up, even after 2 weeks without being used so am guessing valve stem oil seals are good, no smoke at redline, it'll sit there all day with nothing but it goes from max to min every 1000miles. Could this be down to the PCV valve? i guess if its got blocked oil could be getting forced through the valve stem seals at high rpm? no dumbass answers please and don't reply if you have no idea what you are talking about. mileage on car is 84,xxx miles on jdm d15b, oil changed every 3000 miles from new, fully serviced not usually driven very hard, never used to burn oil either until recently.

mhmm, I'd like to know as well. I just got a B16 swapped in and after about a week of driving my rear bumper will be covered with oil. Im also running pretty rich so i think it can be the mixture of the two. I dunno....

Re: oil burning (westsidejdmyo)
it would not hurt to simply check the pcv valve. give it a shake. if you hear it rattle, then it's good. if it does not, then that may be your issue. only costs like $3 from the dealership.

Re: oil burning (vtecb20coupe)
im betting you guys burning oil are using synthetic oil. i use to always use mobil 1 and would bur about the same rate. id lose abot a quart or a little more over an oil change and my rear bumper would be black after agressive driving(autox, or just a lot of spirited street driving).
now i have switched back to goood old castrol gtx and do not loose a drop or ever get that soot all over the rear of my car. if you are using synthetic, try switching back to regular and see if your problem goes away.

Your not supposed to switch back to normal oil after running synthetic or so ive heard. Ive ran both normal oil and synthetic and it does the same.

Re: oil burning (solsteeler)
yes, you can switch back and forth. its all rumor that it shrinks your valve seals. its all a bunch of bull.
there is only two things that can happen to make you loose oil. you either have a leak or its being burned somehow.
