Default OBD scanner low voltage.

Recently picked up a EJ, took it to get smogged, smog guy hooked his scanner up but kept getting "low voltage" error.

I took the car home and looked under steering column, to find out somebody tried to install aftermarket alarm system, what would be the best place for me to start for correcting the smog issue?

Thanks for any help.

Remove the alarm and fixed any hacked wires.

Maybe check your Alternator then battery then power wires and grounds. If you drove around and it was able to read, the battery had to be low on power or the alternator is getting tired of recharging the battery.

Does the scanner work when plugged into other cars? If so, measure the voltage on the power pin of the OBD2 connector. Also measure continuity to body ground on the ground pin. I think there are only three pins in the connector.
