O2 Sensor Interchangeability....
I have a 92 CX that I assume has a bad O2 sensor, exhaust stinks like a garbage dump! I changed headgasket and timingbelt/waterpump last summer. This thing has over 150k on it so it could be the cat-convertor, but it seemed to be clear when I didi the head gasket. I am swapping out this p.o.s. motor come Febuary so I dont want to pump alot of money into it. My question is what could cause gas mileage to drop to about 20mpg, be even more gut-less than when I first got it, and stink real bad? I am assuming the O2 isn't doing its job of manipulating the injectors. Any ideas? Can I swap an 02 from a 89 CRX Si into the CX? They are both 1 wire and I have one lying around...
Thanks for any ideas as I hate driving a stinker!

Re: O2 Sensor Interchangeability.... (Circuit8)
I'm wondering almost the exact same thing, but it's out of a 95 JDM crx si (got the manifold off a friends sister's swap and the o2 is still in it).
But I've got the same symptoms, crap gas mileage and the ever popular sulfer smell.
I filled up with premium the other day because it was a VERY good price and I'm getting getting a bit better milage, but can't afford it with the prices out there now.

The smell is indeed your cat ask anyone who has ever been silly enough to hollow theirs out.If the cat is that old it is more than likely clogged up.Don't waste time or money if you are going to be swapping out as early as Feb.The o2 sensor doesn't manipulate the injectors it tells the ecu to.but yes if your cat is all fowled than it is probably effecting your o2 telling the ecu some bs and they are not performing right.
