No spark
I hope this is the right place to post this here: I've been reading a couple of post here and found a couple of remedies to solved my :no spark problems on my Civic HB w/ JDM B16a swap. To make it short, and save some time and $$$$. I've learned the hard way. One day I was leaving from work and my HB just completely stall after driving 100 yards. I thought it might have been my Alternator again. Whoa! I was wrong!!
Problem: Engine stall, but still crank and not turning over.
Steps I have taken:
1. Chk/ notice what light comes on after turn on ingnition key on
2. Chk battery
3. Chk alternator
4. Chk SPARK PLUGS (#3 was wet with oils at bottom of plug)
5. It turn out it was my spark plug O-ring was worn out. $35
6. Replace Spark plug O-ring and gasket seal
7. replace the dizzy cover (with 95' GSR dizzy cover) $5 from junk yard
Still no start after doing the 7 steps.
8. Replace/GAP the plug (thank you for this forum, which has the info on plug gap setting for JDM B16a)
Still no start!!! I also chk to see if there any plug have a sparks on any 4 at all. No spark, but still crank.
9. got a good know plug wire from a running civic. still no spark. $35
10. Replace Ignition coil (95' GSR) $89 (bad mistaking on buying this!)
STILL NO SPARK!
11. By this time my battery is draining out. Replace battery $65 from sears.
12. I was about to give up and getting ready to sell my pride procession. Alot of mechanic/shop told me that it was my Dizzy going out. that gonna be another $480. Then I found this site and reading this forum for many hours after work. Majority post was ingniter/the whole Dizzy was bad. I chk w/ honda it was $289 for initer hmmm..
13. Wasted 4 hrs looking for igniter at junk yard( never buy this from junk yard)
14. remove igniter from Dizzy unit and went to Advance Auto. They told me that the reading was low and need replacement.
15. $51 for igniter
You know what? My B16a start up on the first try!!!
I've should have taken all these parts that i brought and have Advance auto chk them out first!!! before purchasing them.
Thank you for those who post this info here.
