Default No power steering - no manual steering rack

do i HAVE to convert to a manual steering rack? Personally, I can deal with the bitch of parallel parking and pushing around the fluid. But someone on this forum said that having no P/S will eventually screw up my rack and i have to replace it to manual. is this true? what does built pressure do in terms of ruining my steering? so i can't just remove all my p/s components and drive like that forever?

yes, i did a search, 6 pages of power steering...i read thru most of them.

you can actually loop the fluide, all you do, is run a line back to the rack from the container. all you really have to do is keep the rack wet.

No that thread is an explanation on looping a P/S rack.... And it is recommended to loop the line for several reasons... One being it will be a little easier to drive, and two being it keeps the rack lubricated so that you avoid damaging the rack...

do you DD that 8 month no power steering car? i picked up my car as a rolling shell w/o ac or P/S. i dunno how long it's been but i drive totally fine w/o it. i think it's been about 18 months or so. however, about 8 of those months were it - as a rolling shell. heh.

Does it have the fluid resivor? Or is it taken off all
the way to the rack? If you want to get rid of the
resivor and all the lines you can block the hole with a
bolt and use a peice of line with a breater on it or conect
the two with a slit in the line so that the presure does not
build up.

the resevoir's still there. because there is no belt, that means it's not circulating right? i have an EK and i wanted to know how far can i remove all this stuff to? the pump? the pump is near the middle part of the firewall, right? near the chasis? it's night so i can't take a picture...and my camera sucks.

i can just unbolt the resevoir, pull the rubber hose, and like you said, plug the hole? what happens if pressure builds up? i mean, hasn't it already been building up? how far can i remove stuff? TIA

you can remove the pump, the reservoir and then loop the line going to and from the rack itself... Add a breather in between the two, or something along those lines to allow air... All you are needing to do is keep a small amount of fluid in the rack to lubricate it... (also I promise you that link I gave you earlier is an explanation on how to do this...)

does anyone know the threading and size of the fitting that you need for the rack. there have been around 2-3 of these how-to's but none say the fitting size, they only state the part number for aeoquip. we have a lot of good places around me for fittings thats why im asking. thanks

That link is awesome. The guy gives part number and the whole nine. I will definitely be doing this by the summer time.

i just want to know if it's okay to remove the pump, hardlines and resevoir and drive without it. i don't care if i have to push the fluid myself.
